July Monthly Color Challenge Block
It’s July Monthly Color Challenge Block release day today. I’m joining in with Patterns by Jen to share my July block with you, and encourage you to join with us for this fun sew along.
On the first of each month, Patterns by Jen releases a free block design for us to make. This year, she is using birds as her inspiration. You can find more information about this block of the month right here.
Jen shares the July block in this post. Remember that this block is free for the month of July. After that, it is available for a small fee.
You can see my blocks for January through June right here.
This month’s inspiration bird is the American robin. Here in the Midwest, the robin is a harbinger of spring. After the long, cold, winter months, we search for a robin sighting, a sure sign that winter is moving on and spring is on its way.
I enjoy watching robins hunt for worms, as they cock their heads to listen, then jab their beaks into the ground, successfully nabbing that worm.
I had to do a little hunting of my own to come up with fabrics for this block. I was successful, finding just the right fabrics to match the red breast of the robin.
I love a good fabric stash, don’t you? I found these two companionable fabrics and I’m pretty happy with this block. I think this is one of my favorites. While it might look intimidating if to a beginning quilter, Jen makes it easy with her step-by-step instructions.
We’re also starting a new quarter with this block of the month, and that means new sponsors. Take a look at this great line-up of sponsors! You can find more details about them at Patterns by Jen.

Did you sew this at 12:01am? I can’t believe you are done. I do love when the new pattern is released each month and I usually get it sewn within a few days. Love your fabric choices.

Fun block! Fun fabrics! I love your photo op, too!

Pretty block! Now I want to make mine today. But I’m in the messy middle of several other projects, so there’s no room to add another one. Hmm, that sounds like a self-generated challenge, doesn’t it? 🙂

Hi Wendy! I do enjoy seeing your monthly block each month. I love these fabrics and colors together. It does emulate the Robin colors just perfectly. As always, you did a fabulous job on the photography as well. I can’t wait to see how you put these blocks together. ~smile~ Roseanne

Your robin block turned out great! I do think it’s fun each month to see the block we’re making and then go hunt around for the perfect bits and pieces to make it out of. I’ll be thinking about that today, I bet!

Looks great! I love seeing all of the different color combinations that people use!

Love those rusty robin fabrics! Great job on this block and I, too enjoy watching the robins find their meals. A good stash is a beautiful thing!
