More Llama Drama
I promise, just one more llama drama mini. My cousin Deb is coming to visit today, and she asked if I would make her a llama mini quilt for her classroom. Of course, I said — no prob llama! (Thanks to Dione at Clever Chameleon for that clever response!)
This little llama really isn’t named yet. That will be up to Deb. This one is a close cousin of Lucille, with the hair and a jaunty bright purple bandana. I used turquoise Grunge for the body.
I think this llama will add some nice drama to her classroom, don’t you?
Deb loves music, so I added a little touch of music to her llama.
Like Lucille, this little mini is a trim 10″ x 20″. I quilted long vertical lines using Aurifil Dove Grey thread. Once again, this took me an afternoon to make. The pattern is so well done, but here’s a tip — you should really read the instructions carefully and pay attention so you don’t have any little pieces left over. I won’t say any more about that, other than that I just added a little personality without realizing it! Haha.
Deb will be here the rest of the week, so there will be a lot of talking and laughing but probably not a lot of quilting. Before I go, though, I’ll leave you with a little discovery I made over the July 4th weekend.
Random Tip of the Day
I have a patriotic quilt I hang each year. It is a lap quilt size. I don’t have a rod pocket for it, because then it would hang too long for the space. So I usually hang it over the rod and secure it with pins. However, I had a lightbulb moment the other day and used a different common household item instead.
My quilt has dark borders, and the bobby pins are barely visible. The quilt hangs in a high traffic area, and the pins hold it securely. While I wouldn’t use bobby pins for a quilt that hangs an extensive period of time, it’s a temporary fix for those seasonal quilts. Just make sure your bobby pins are new and free of rust or snags.

Hi Wendy! I think Lucille’s cousin has an attitude. You can easily see it in her eyes – she’s a stinker. I can’t wait to hear what Deb names her. I guess she could be a he . . . but she just too involved to be a him. Great tip about the bobby bins! I don’t have any though!! I’d have to pick up some at the dollar store. I hope you and Deb have lots of fun and laughs, and try to stay out of trouble. Have a good cuppa on me – wish I could join you. ~smile~ Roseanne
piecefulwendy
Thanks, Roseanne! The llama does have a bit of an attitude! I’m sure we’ll have fun. We’ll think of you as we’re sipping our cuppa!

Lucille’s cousin has serious flair! About how long did it take you to piece the second one? Thanks for the bobby pin tip. I haven’t owned them in 20 years 🙂
piecefulwendy
Thanks, Louise. This second one took me a few hours in the afternoon. I pieced it one afternoon, quilted and bound it the next, but it can be done all in the same day.

That little llama…is so cute! I can’t wait to see the next one! I am so bad at reading through instructions. Even if I do, I usually mess something up! The personal touches are perfect too!

Your second llama is just as cute as the first. I don’t think you can ever have too many llamas, apparently they are very social creatures. 🙂
piecefulwendy
I agree, thanks!
