Patio Placemats

The weather is finally warming up here in Minnesota, and the sun going to be shining a bit more this week. It’s time to dress up my patio table, so I made a couple of patio placemats.

Using the Round Placemat & Patchwork Pillow pattern from Sotak Handmade, I made these two placemats in an afternoon. They are 15 inches in diameter, perfect for our patio table.

The fabrics all came from my stash and scrap bin. For the backing, I used two fat quarters.

Two small scrap pieces of Quilter’s Dream Select batting were just the right size for the placemats. Aurifil Dove Grey (#2600) was used for some simple straight line quilting.

The bias binding lays nice and flat with no puckering. I used my walking foot to attach and finish the binding.

I plan to make at least two more to complete a set of four. While I was stitching them together, I was thinking about how versatile this pattern could be. They could be made with a holiday theme; the color wheel could be done in fussy cuts; one mat could be different than the others and used for special occasions like birthdays; even the fur kid could have a mat of its own. I’m sure you can think of others. And they would make great gifts.
