September Monthly Color Challenge
Here we are on the 1st day of September, and I am one of the guest bloggers for the September Monthly Color Challenge hosted by Patterns by Jen. Jen has graciously hosted this block of the month for several years now, along with designing each block every month. Her patterns are well done and the blocks are basic and easy to make. A great block of the month for beginner and veteran quilters alike.
The block for September is available at Patterns by Jen right now, and is free for the full month of September. Once we move into the next month, the previous blocks for each month are available for a small fee. If this looks like fun to you, there’s still time to join in.
Of course, Jen uses inspiration to design her blocks and choose her monthly colors. This year, her inspiration is birds. Each month’s color has a bird assigned to it. September’s bird is the cinnamon teal. You can see these beauties right here.
Okay, true confession. I made my block without looking at the cinnamon teal. I chose fabrics that looked to me like it was close to a cinnamon color (thinking about the cinnamon spice color in my cabinet). In doing so, I had to chuckle when I looked up the cinnamon teal. It appears that I have chosen to give the female cinnamon teal her day in the quilting sun.
I considered a redo, but decided I rather like her, don’t you? Besides, I have very little rust/cinnamon fabric, and I had used that for my July block, which you can see here.
She plays rather well with the rest of the blocks, too, I think.
So I’m going to let her join the my flock of blocks.
Along with hosting and designing blocks, Jen has done a fabulous job of lining up some wonderful sponsors for this quarter too. Here they are:
You can learn more about the sponsors in this post from Patterns by Jen. Many thanks to all the sponsors for their generous support of this block of the month!
I’ve shown you the female version of the cinnamon teal, but I’m pretty sure the other guest hosts will share their blocks showing off that beautiful coloring of the male cinnamon teal, so please stop by and take a peek at their blocks. Leave a comment, too, because we all love comments, right?!

I like your cinnamon block! I haven’t seen Jen’s post yet, but I happened to have just come across some “cinnamon” sort of fabric in my stash the other day – now I know what it’s for! 🙂

I totally love those blocks.

Female birds do all the work and the males get the spotlight! So, good job giving the female Cinnamon Teal the spotlight!

Totally agree with Nancy above!!

All your blocks look super! This is my first peek at September’s design and it’s fun to see it on your blog. You got me hooked on this QAL and I’m really enjoying it 🙂

I agree that the Ms. Cinnamon block goes well with all your other blocks. I think she gives balance to the block arrangement.
