30 Days of Improv QAL – Curves
This week for the 30 Days of Improv QAL – Curves! I love to sew improv curves, so I’ve had some fun with my blocks so far. Here’s a peek, for those of you who may not have seen them on Instagram.
Before we get to my improv curves, I should catch you up on the rest of my improv triangles from last week.
Some of my triangles showed up better than others, and some of the blocks turned out differently than I expected. When I make my blocks, I don’t really have a plan in mind. I start with a cut and see where it leads; however, some cuts make me think the block will look a certain way, and then it changes the whole look. I enjoy that!
Now to this Monday’s blocks, just simple curves, actually more like waves.
With the second one, I added a few more curves and some pieced bits from scraps of other blocks.
For the third one – my least favorite of these three – I added in more bits from other blocks to see how it would work with the curves.
Tuesday’s blocks went together quickly. We were encouraged to play with small curves, which was pretty easy to do with 5-1/2 inch blocks.
Just a few more blocks and it will be time to play with the layout. I enjoy looking up at my design wall and seeing all of the blocks – 26 of them so far – on my wall. I have a few more to make for the 30 Days of Improv QAL – Curves week, and I’ll share those in another post. You can see my other blocks in this post.

I have loved watching these go together on Facebook. Can’t wait to see them sewn into a quilt.

You’re so good with those improv curves! I’m still loving these colors, too. How long does the QAL go?

It’s so nice to see these blocks and the way you keep going. I’m not sure I’d be able to stick with 30 days of improv! A traditional piecer in bright fabrics…that’s me.

Improv is interesting and I like the way what we think or envision doesn’t always work out. I think that can be what stresses some people out about improv, but it is also where the magic and fun of it lies. I look forward to seeing you puzzle these together!

I am not an improv kind of gal, but I sure do like what you come up with! Can’t wait to see the final layout! 🙂

You know I always love watching you do improv because you really get in your groove when you do it!

Your blocks are coming together so well! And it’s fun to see how you’re so willing to experiment and take risks.

I love watching all these improv blocks coming together! It will be fun to see what you do….and any you don’t really like can go on the back. One day I will do this challenge.

Hi Wendy! I am intrigued by this project. The colors alone are compelling and they just drawn you in. I am looking forward to seeing these fun block come together. It will be better than a Picasso, in my opinion. {{Hugs}} a bunch! ~smile~ Roseanne

I am in awe of this project! Such clean and crisp lines, and so many seams! I would never attempt something like this, but I enjoy watching your progress.

You did fantastic blocks and thank you for sharing. How quick do four weeks run… It makes so much fun to do these little pieces. Unfortunately I am far behind, but will do it. May be no quilt but each weeks block sewn together to one piece and make a shopper or table runner out of it.
The colours are perfect for this project. Love that all readers give applause to your improve work, even they do not go for it. If you like to try ladies, this is a perfect project to start to get a feeling of improve cutting.
