A Fine Feather
I have a fine feather of a squirrel to show you today. This little DrEAMi project, you know those little Drop Everything and Make It projects a/k/a squirrels, wiggled in just as August was about to go out the door.
It all started with that little scrap bag I recently purchased, the one with the fabrics for Little Boy Blue. Included in that scrap bag were these lovelies.
I pulled out the light gold, and added a few more deeper golds from my stash.
Now — what to make?? Then I remembered I picked up this Fall 2019 issue of Quilts & more.
See that cute little turkey in the upper right corner? Well, you know I had to make that. Of course, I enjoyed every minute of making it.
Rather than make a pillow, I chose to make a wall hanging. This little fellow will add some festive Thanksgiving fun to my mini quilt wall, don’t you think?
Designed by Kristina of Center Street Quilts, this little project is so well written, goes together quickly and uses very little fabric. I have plenty of the scrap fabrics left over to make another project.
Using Hobbs 80/20 batting and a backing from my stash, I quilted straight(ish) lines using Aurifil 50 wt thread in yellow orange (#2145).
Here’s a peek at the backing and binding, both from my stash.
The final touch was adding the little eyes.
This little project finishes at 18 inches. I’m happy with it as a mini, but it would make a really cute pillow for your fall decor!
Stop back tomorrow . . .
I’m joining in with Benita and other quilters in this fun party. Stop back here and read about me, then hop over to Benita’s blog and get to know her and the others who are participating. Click on the photo to see the great prizes being offered as well. There’s some good stuff!
So, have you been in any fine feathers lately? Let’s hear about it!

What a cute turkey! Those fabrics are perfect. I like it as a mini quilt rather than a pillow. Nice quilting too.

I love your turkey – so cute. That was the perfect project for your scrap bag fabrics. I like the purple and gold fabrics together in it – a nice combination for feeling like fall!

I love your little turkey. So cute. And I often use straight line quilting as it looks great on so many little quilts.

cute turkey! I don’t get the “squirrels” thing though what is that about ? Straight lines look good on this and the fabric is lovely

What a cute turkey!! I saw the picture on the cover but haven’t read the magazine yet; I get Quilts & More online through my public library. I will have to pay attention to that one. I’ve been making minis to decorate the door and a turkey would be great to add to the rotation!

Oh my gosh, that is adorable! The fabric you used on the body is just perfect for it!

Adorable Turkey! I am planning a turkey quilt for October…. but I wish I had time to add this one to the squirrel nest! You did a great job, and you’ve probably just given the mag a hike in sales!! 🙂

I fell in love with that Turkey when I received my digital magazine. I like that you’re using it as a mini instead of a pillow. I may do the same…love love your fabrics- I was planning on using solids but I may do something different after seeing yours♥♥ Thanks Wendy!

Hi Wendy! That grab bag yielded two great projects. I love this turkey mini wall hanging. You’re all set for Thanksgiving, but honestly I’d hang it up all year long. ~smile~ Roseanne

Such a cute turkey. He is smiling – does he/she not know he is going to be stuffed and roasted, carved and eaten??? May be his lovely feathers will get him pardoned 🙂
