A Little Irish

A Little Irish is the name of my piece for the Project Quilting Challenge 15.6 – Irish Chain. I racked my brain trying to come up with something clever that was a spin off of an Irish Chain block, but had no luck. So I decided to go a little green with my project, and make something with a small Irish Chain quilt block.

I made a little 8″ project bag from some green scraps, using the pattern in Sotak Handmade’s book, That Handmade Touch, as a guide. The little Irish Chain blocks are 2 inches unfinished. I used a variety of green scraps, and strip pieced them. They are just a bit wonky, which I like. The most difficult part of this project was cutting the clear vinyl – it’s a challenge to see that clear vinyl under my ruler – but it all worked out. The hot pink zipper adds a little pop of color because I didn’t have a green zipper in the right color. And I’ve been wanting to use that green stripe for an age – I love striped binding!

The back of the project bag is a green blender fabric I had in my stash. The quilting is a simple grid, stitching in the ditch. I used a light green thread for the quilting. The batting is fusible fleece fused to the back of the Irish Chain block. The binding was sewn to the front of the project bag and then hand-stitched to the back.

Irish Chain is the final challenge for Project Quilting Season 15. I have completed each challenge this season, and thoroughly enjoyed each one. If you’d like to see them, here are the links to each one.

Thank you, Kim and Trish, for another fun season of Project Quilting!

What about you? Have you been participating in Project Quilting?

Wendy
