A Little Lime
How about a little lime for the July Monthly Color Challenge? We are at the halfway mark for the 2021 Monthly Color Challenge with Patterns by Jen. The inspiration for this month’s block is the zesty lime, perfect for a summer block!
Of course, the entire time I was stitching up this block, I had the Harry Nilsson song going through my head – you know the one (you put the lime in the coconut . . .)! It’s a lovely little earworm that will stay with you throughout the day. It’s going through my head once again as I’m writing this post.
I had to dig to find just the right fabrics for my lime block. I had just enough of the green print, and it paired up so well with the Kona solid, which I think might be Peapod, but I forgot to check. Once the fabric was in hand, the little block went together quickly.
One of our current favorite recipes are Key Lime White Chocolate Chip cookies. Oh my goodness, they are so good! Here’s the link to the recipe. I don’t even have a photo, because the cookies don’t last long enough!
Of course, while humming the fun little song, it made me thirsty for a Dirty Coke. It’s one of my favorite ways to drink Coke. Unfortunately, I’m out of coconut syrup, so I’m just dreaming about it. Here’s how you make it: Put a few pumps of coconut syrup in a glass, add ice, Coke, and a squeeze of lime. If you want to jazz it up, toss in a wedge of lime. That’s it!
Would you like to see my six blocks that I’ve made this year?
My fruits and veggies for the 2021 Monthly Color Challenge are shaping up nicely, don’t you think? Adding a little lime sure didn’t hurt!
I’ve chosen to make the 6″ blocks this year, and they go together quickly. If you’re interested in joining us, you can find information and the patterns at Patterns by Jen. The July block is a free download for the duration of the month; after that, each block is available for a nominal fee at Jen’s site.
Let me know if you give the recipes a try? I’d enjoy hearing what you think of them!

Love the staging with the limes! I would have had to go buy some as I don’t use limes. Dirty coke, never heard of it before. I just learn all kinds of things from you!!

I think you found the perfect fabric for your lime block, and love seeing all of them you’ve made so far, too! Those cookies sound delicious!

Both foodie ideas sound so good – even though it is early morning and I am on my first cup of coffee! YUM. Love this block and think it might look great as a quilt on its own. I bet the patterns made would be really cool. Nice job!

Two new recipes I’ve never heard of…Dirty Coke! Your block is lovely and I think all 6 of them together is a beautiful vision. Your choice of fabrics really makes the block standout. It will be interesting to see the rest of the blocks come together.

Your lime block looks lovely … and fits in nicely with all the other fruit and veggie blocks!

Okay I’m even more impressed now that I’ve read to the end and realise that your block is 6″. I’m doing both sizes and my 12″ is fine but I re-did the centre of my 6″ block multiply times and it’s still squiffy. Love your colours too. Thankfully I don’t know the Harry Neilsson song so I have no earworms 🙂

I love this! You have planted both an earworm and a craving. I knew this color would not be a problem for you! That ring fabric is fantastic!

The way these six block images look together is great.
If we get together, you have your dirty Coke. I’ll take one too… only without the coconut syrup and without the lime. Ha!
The Morning Latte
Well, I’m not a soda drinker at all but I do love coconut so that sounds kinda yummy! And those cookies! I think I will try them eventually but they do sound dangerous so I’m biding my time there! Your blocks all look so cute, and arranged so smartly in their pics!
Quilting is in my Blood
I’ve never heard of a dirty Coke before, but I have enjoyed some coconut ice cream twice on my vacation so far. Yum! Your limey fabrics are perfect for the block.

Oh gee thanks for the earworm. 😉 Love your fabrics. I’ve done mine but couldn’t handle the tiny-ness of the pieces for the 6-inch, so mine is the big version. Your blocks look great together! Thanks for the dirty Coke recipe – I’ve not heard of it and it sounds wonderful.

You got the lime just right in this month’s block. It’s going to be a bright and fun finish for the end of the year.
