A New Oven Mitt
I made a new oven mitt from a newly-released free pattern from Sotak Handmade on her YouTube channel. It is a quick, easy pattern to make. I have made several of her patterns and never been disappointed.

My plan was to make a pair, but I only had enough Insulbrite for one mitt. That was okay, since I was just giving the pattern a try. The instructions on the video are simple and easy to follow. The pattern is a free download.
I didn’t take any progress photos, I completely forgot! I did, however, cheat a little on the loop for the mitt. The selvage was too cute not to use. I know it will ravel over time, but it can easily be clipped off then. This mitt is going to my daughter, so I think the little message on the selvage will make her smile.

I’ve had this fabric on my shelf for awhile. It is the Petal Power Fabrics from Me & My Sister Designs for Moda. It’s a fun, cheerful print that will brighten up my daughter’s kitchen.
The mitt uses Insulbrite with the outer fabric, and all cotton batting with the lining fabric (I used Wrap & Zap, since I had it on hand). Once some simple quilting is done on each of the mitt pieces, the rest finishes up quickly. I had this mitt done in a couple of hours.

This will be a great pattern to have on hand. I’m definitely going to be making more of these.
Here is the link to her tutorial.
My daughter and I have been baking bread, so she’ll get a lot of use out of this mitt. My current favorite bread recipe is this one:
Making a new oven mitt was a fun diversion for a few hours in my quilt room. Now I need to get back to those mitten blocks!
Happy sewing, friends!

Very cute. I like the little label. I checked out the bread recipe. Starting to think I should bake some bread soon.

A bright, fresh, happy oven mitt. Using the selvedge with its clever wording is so clever.

I just looked up Wrap & Zap. What an amazing idea to have batting for the microwave. I sometimes wonder if there’s anything left to be invented! And your mit is a fun and useful gift for your daughter. I love your binding hanginging loop 🙂

Love this! I am very grateful to those who put out free patterns. 🙂 I will be sure to bookmark this one. The little selvage tab is perfect!

I bet that selvage loop will hold up for a long time. It looks great and I hope your daughter smiles every time she uses it!

That is so, so cute! Love the little loop and the message. I bet she never clips it off, no matter if it ravels.

I saw this tutorial too Wendy. I saved it for ‘later’ since I don’t need a mitt at the moment. But yes, it looks like a great (easy) project. Her patterns and her YouTube videos are great. She is very generous with the amount she shares. Love this finish – it is super cute.

This is great. It turned out so cute. I expect to give the tutorial a try too at some point. Love Svetlana’s patterns.

The oven mitt, recipe and links are so thoughtful to share with us. I love the color you chose it’s so bright and happy. That was a very creative use of a selvage too. Thank you and happy sewing.

so do you have 3 layers inside the fabric or two – I was trying to decide if you meant fabric, batting, insulating piece , batting fabric — or one batting?

Very cute. Perfect for spring and the Easter holiday.

Thanks Mom! Can’t wait to use it!

Well how cheery is that!? Love the little label hanger! I laughed when you said you’d had enough Insul-brite! I always think I’d love to make tons of these things…but after one, yeah…not that fun anymore. LOL. But so great to have! I made square hotpads about 10 years ago and I’m STILL using them! Homemade is definitely best!

How cut that is! I love the loop and can see how you had to use it. I also saved that bread recipe…I do like to make my own sometimes and breads that require little fuss are ones I like. I have to go save this oven mitt, too! A fun little blog post with lots of cheery info – thanks.

You are the queen of finding and trying out new patterns. I don’t need to look for patterns because I just read your blog and follow your lead!

Thanks for the link. I was going to tell my daughter she could get me some for Mother’s Day but now I can make my own
