All the Colors
When Joan of MooseStash Quilting announced the Wonderful World of Color Blog Hop, I knew I had to join in. What a great opportunity to use all the colors!
I had a Color Wheel Basics Stash Pack I had purchased from Colorways by Vicki Welsh, and I was eager to use it for this Hop. I grabbed my rotary cutter and got to work cutting wavy strips and sewing them together in the order they were in from the stash pack. My plan was to make a wavy improv mini table runner. I am quite sure I took a photo of the wavy strips all sewn together, but I cannot locate it, so you’ll have to imagine what it looked like.
Well, it just didn’t work for me to stop there. It needed to be used differently. So I pulled out my copy of Scrappy Improv Quilting by Kelly Young of My Quilt Infatuation and paged through it for inspiration. I found one pattern I thought would work. While Kelly uses slabs for her project, I thought I’d try it using wavy strips. It worked pretty well, but I wasn’t sure I really liked it. So I put it away for a few days, thinking I would rip part of it and redo it. When I pulled it back out, I decided it wasn’t so bad after all.
This mini measures 18″ square, a great size for hanging on a wall, using as a table mat, or making into a pillow. Since this hop is about all the colors, I thought I’d use a colorful backing, too!
The binding is a purple batik from my stash that I thought worked really well.
This has been such a fun Hop. I hope you’ve been following along this week. Joan has done a great job of highlighting each quilter each day, so stop over and give her a comment or two of thanks for all her work! You can find all of the links on her blog.
Here’s a list of today’s bloggers for the Hop. Make sure you stop by their posts for more inspiration! Just hover over the link, click and it will take you there.
Happy reading and stitching, all! Enjoy all the colors today, whether it be with needle and thread or otherwise!

Oh, I *love* this. All that color, and I like the black and white background as a juxtaposition to the color.

Wow I’m glad you decided to put it away for awhile and not rip it out – it’s awesome! I love the gradated colors and black/white background together, that’s always a good combo IMO. The backing is perfect!

What a great use of your wavey fabric. It is amazing how when you put things down for a bit you see them in a whole new light when you revisit. Love the block you choose and the backing. Just perfect.

I am glad it worked out for you in the end. I’d say it fits the theme of this hop perfectly! That backing just screamed to be used in this project.

Super cute, bright, and happy! Why stick with one color when you can have something as interesting as this? Your background fabric fits it really well, too. Happy spring!

Wow, those improv color blocks are so beautifully pieced that I thought it was a print when I started reading the blog post. I really love the black and white print that you paired the bright colors with.

I love your little quilt, just so sweet and colorful. Your experience with thinking you might rippit, rippit is what everyone should do when they quilt. It’s amazing how a bit of time makes the quilt look much better. 🙂

Wendy, I love that! That’s one of my favorite designs in Kelly’s book, and such a perfect use of your hand-dyed fabric. The backing is wonderful, too! Hope you have a special place to hang this one!

Yes! I like it and I am sure it has been cheering during the dull days of winter.

I love your wavy strips and the quilt ended up fabulous!

Great piece. At first glance, I thought it was just a single piece of fabric you had used, then after reading I realized that you had pieced it. I love it! I really like the consistency of the 4 major triangles and then having the other things be a bit more random. It looks especially great with the black and white fabric.

I absolutely love the challenge quilts. But once they are made, what do you DO with them?
