Another Essential Tote
My sister-in-law recently asked if I could make a bag for her to gift a friend. I made another Essential Tote, using the pattern from Around the Bobbin. My first Essential Tote was made at a sewing day with Nancy (Grace and Peace Quilting), and you can read about that tote here.
The tote needed to be green, so I chose the fabrics shown in the photo above. The floral print is an Art Gallery Fabric, Sage, designed by Bari J. Isn’t it pretty? I bought this from Bernie’s shop, Needle & Foot in case you want to snag some for yourself. It pairs beautifully with Kona Rifle and Kona Sprout.
I modified this tote just a bit, making it just a bit shorter in width. This finished tote measures 18″ x 14″ x 4″ (the original tote is 20″). The tote is stabilized with Annie’s Soft & Stable and Pellon SF101. I did quick straight line quilting spaced 1″ apart.
I used the Kona Sprout as the lining, and added a pocket on one side.
Making another Essential Tote was a fun project. The pattern is done so well, and the bag goes together quite quickly. My sister-in-law was very happy with it, too.
What’s that Fabric?
So many of you mentioned how much you liked my background fabric for my Follow the Dots quilt, my project for the Follow Your Own Path QAL hosted by Sandra (Musings of a Menopausal Melon). I thought I’d let you know the fabric name and designer in case you want to find some for yourself.
The fabric is “Hubba Hubba” from Me & My Sister Designs for Moda, stock # 22087-37. I bought mine at a quilt shop on our way to Santa Fe, so I can’t recommend an online resource. Happy hunting!
Happy Wednesday, all!

The bag turned out beautifully! All the pretty fabrics are inspiring and I hadn’t noticed that cute dot fabric had all those colors. No wonder people wondered where to buy some. Nice find!

I think I used that same fabric in one of my “trashy” quilts. I love the fabric you used for your tote. Very pretty.

Hi Wendy! Hubba Hubba! I love the name and Me & My Sister prints. That doesn’t surprise me one bit. That bag turned out just fabulously. I just love those two greens with the floral – they compliment each other just SO nicely. I’m off to see the dets on Hubba Hubba. ~smile~ Roseanne

That’s a great bag, and what a nice gift! I love the colors you picked. I think the dimensions you made it sound perfect – 20 inches is a bit wide. I made a tote that size awhile back and it was big!

the fabrics chosen add so much to your work, which is always so precise

What a neat tote, and that fabric is beautiful. Thanks for the info on the dots fabric. You really should keep your fellow quilters in mind when you buy fabric on a trip, and just buy extra for us. 😉
