April Monthly Color Challenge Block

I’m sneaking in right before the end of the month to share my April Monthly Color Challenge block for the 2021 Monthly Color Challenge hosted by Patterns by Jen. This month flew by, and I almost forgot to get my block done!

If you’ve followed me long enough, you might remember that in the last few years BigJ and I have started going cherry picking in mid-summer.

The proof is in the photo, I guess — here I am in action, filling my bucket with tart  Montmorency cherries. That particular trip, we left with 7 buckets of cherries. BigJ processes them when we get home, some are brandied, some made into sauce and some left for pies. I’m not nearly the cherry fan he is, but I do eat some. I figure if he’s willing to stop at quilt shops for me, I should probably help out with the cherry picking, right?

The Monthly Color Challenge theme this year is fruits and veggies, and April’s month is cherries. I decided to go with some deep reds for my block.

This little 6″ block was a bit more challenging than I expected, but I got it done just in time. My April Monthly Color Challenge block will be added to my January, February, and March blocks.

How about you? Are you stitching along, and if so, is your April block done?

I’m off to link up my post to Patterns by Jen’s April linky party.

Happy stitching!

Wendy

Your block is perfect, I’m sure those little pieces were a challenge. I like cherries, the sweet ones.

I am not doing the color challenge, but your block looks great! 🙂
I just happen to have a Montmorency cherry tree in full blossom in my back yard! I look forward to harvesting it!

The whole block is 6″, wow those are teeny tiny little strips! Good job as they look straight and perfect.

Hi Wendy! Your cherry April block looks so pretty and just the perfect fabric choices to represent them. Those are some very small strips and you rocked it keeping them nice and straight. ~smile~ Roseanne

Cute little block! That first pic brought back instant memories to my childhood when we had two cherry trees in our orchard. I don’t know what kind they were but they were darker and pretty tart. Would love to get some again.

Such a lovely block, Wendy. Those reds are scrumptious! I’m not happy with my block. I’ve been using a gray background and this one comes out looking like jail stripes! And I put it together wrong. I’m trying to decide if I’m going to go back and do it over or make a substitute block I like when putting my quilt together.

Great blocks and now, you have me thinking about cherries and all their deliciousness. When do you and BigJ make the cherry excursion?

I tried to comment once, so lets see if this one works. Love the block and the photos of the cherries. This makes me think of your annual cherry adventure…when is it?

mmmm cherries!!!! We have a cherry tree in our back yard … as long as we can pick before the birds do, there is plenty to eat! 🙂 (I don’t process them!) Your block is fantastic! Happy Quilting! 🙂

Montmorency cherries are sooo prolific. We had one back in our last house and it what a keeper! Plus there’s nothing like a cherry pie made with real pie cherries.
Your block reflects the intensity of the reds and reminds me of the intensity of it’s inspirational subject.
    All around double yum!

I love the quilt shop/cherry picking trade off! I have never been cherry picking but we went blueberry picking with my brother in OR on our last visit and that was a lot of fun. Lovely red block!
