Batik Runner and a Winner!
Today’s post is all about a batik runner and a winner! At the end of this post, I’ll announce the winner of the Topsy Turvy digital pattern from Sew Preeti Quilts, so stay with me to meet the winner!
A few weeks ago, I won a fun little bundle of Island Batik fabrics from Emily of The Darling Dogwood. The photo above shows three of the fabrics, and I’ve had fun making a little runner with them. To make this quick little runner, I used the Rail Splits pattern by Pieced Tree Patterns. The pattern was quick to cut and quick to sew. I finished this in an afternoon.
This little runner measures 8-1/2 inches x 48 inches. You can see that it just fits on my dresser.
The trickier step for me was the backing. I managed to piece the backing using another coordinating fabric from that little bundle, along with some left over strips. You’ll also see that I used two of the fabrics for the binding.
For the quilting, I used the serpentine stitch with Aurifil variegated thread 40 wt in Desert Dawn (#4648) and spaced the rows of stitching about an inch apart.
Variegated thread is so much fun to use. I enjoy seeing what colors come forward and which blend in.
Topsy Turvy Winner
On Monday, when I shared my version of Topsy Turvy, a new pattern released by Sew Preeti Quilts, I mentioned a giveaway for one Topsy Turvy digital pattern from Preeti. I’m pleased to announce that the winner is Rochelle Summers!! Congratulations, Rochelle! I have sent your email address to Preeti and you should be hearing from her soon!
I hope you enjoyed this post about my little batik runner and a winner. My thanks to Emily of The Darling Dogwood for the fun fabric, and thank you for stopping by!

Great use of the fabric, and so perfectly timed to use this fall! Pieced Tree patterns are fun and easy to use aren’t they.

That is such a pretty runner, and I love the close-up of the variegated thread. Where is the photo of Wilbs claiming the runner? 😉 You’ve inspired me to make a runner for our bedroom dresser!

Not being a quilter, I’m always amazed that there are special names for threads and certain brands to name. Being a sometimes sewer, I call my threads by names like “blue” and “white.” And instead of brands, I use words like “big spool” and “regular spool.” Ha ha ha

What a wonderful Fall table runner. I looked for the pattern on Pieced Tree’s website but couldn’t find it. Granted I’d only had half a cup of coffee and didn’t click through all the multiple pages.

Beautiful table runner. I like patterns that come together easily but look so smart. And you didn’t let the dust gather on that fabric! Thank you, too, for drawing my name. A complete surprise and it brought a smile to my face. Have a great weekend.

Hi Wendy! What a lovely runner. I think that quilting stitch is just perfect for it. The variegated thread is a nice choice, too – I enjoy watching the thread change and how it ends up showing itself on the finished project. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

That is a pretty design, and a great way to use that fabric, too! I always admire variegated thread used for quilting, and don’t use it nearly enough. Congratulations to Rochelle, too!

That’s a terrific table runner – I love the strips and square combination. The pieced backing and binding work perfectly, too. That squiggle pattern never gets old and looks fabulous on the runner!

A great little runner in such pretty fall colors and the variegated thread just sets it all off perfectly. Congrats to the winner.
