Big Block, Little Block

This weekend has been a little bit of fun sewing and a bunch of secret sewing. I did manage to sew up a big block though.

It was a big block for Moda Blockheads; one I’ve been putting off because it had 60 half square triangles and I wasn’t in the mood. Moda Blockheads 2 will be done soon and I’m still behind. I am slowly catching up.

Here’s the block. It measures 24 inches square.

When I call this a block, Wilbur gives me a questioning look . . .

But wait a minute — isn’t that really a mini quilt??? Yes, Wilbur, yes it could be, but it’s not. It’s a block. A big block. How about a perspective photo?

That’s a 6 inch block on the right. Both of these blocks will go in the Moda Blockheads 2 quilt, along with their many-sized counterparts. I think this is the largest of the blocks, and I hope it’s the last of the big ones.

The rest of my sewing time was secret sewing, most of which I should wrap up this week.

Speaking of secret sewing, both of my Fat Quarter Shop reveal posts are coming this week, on Thursday and Friday (unless there’s a delay in fabric shipment from the Fat Quarter Shop, and they ask me to hold off). I hope you stop in and see the projects I’m working on. They are worth adding to your list of fun things to make!

Happy Monday, all!

Those half square triangles are stunning — worth the effort. Secret sewing sounds quite naughty! Looking forward to seeing what it is you are working on when the time is ripe

I love the side by side photo to show scale. This will be an amazing quilt! I’m looking forward to your FQS reveals, too. Yippee!

I am glad you are sticking to it and getting them done, you are progressing. I like your block but wow that is a big one, but just think how many tiny ones you would have to make to get it to this size…a big one isn’t so bad even with all those HST’s!!!

Ugh, 60 HST’s!! In ONE block! No wonder you were putting off making this block. But don’t you feel all accomplished now that it’s out of the way? LOL It looks great Wendy. I especially like the pic of the two blocks together showing the sizes.

I love this block and so glad you got the monkey off your back! It will be fun to see this all together and your secret sewing!!!

Oh, my! All of those HST – a marvel of persistence! Did you iron open all the seams or press to one side? Your blocks looks beautifully flat. Congratulations on completing this one.

That is quite a block, Wendy! It looks like it turned out great, and I bet you’re so happy to have it finished. I always enjoy seeing how the pieces of a quilt puzzle go together when the blocks are all different sizes!

60 HSTs are daunting and I would have been easily discouraged. This block is a beast but then you thrive on such challenges. beast tamed. I am impressed that your points are so neat. Kudos to you!!!

‘Oof-da’ as my Manitoba friend (who is just above MN and ND, where there are also lots of Scandinavians) would say, that is a big block! Love the expression on Wilbur’s face and I cannot WAIT to see all these secret projects!

I always said that if I even became Queen of the Quilting World I would ban HSTs less than one-inch but I’ve changed my tune since getting my die-cutter and one-inch HST die. But these are 2″ HST and they look so small. We need to get into the same neighborhood so I can die cut for you. I just read that Holiday Inns may be the new retirement homes since it only cost $69/day versus $1100/day at nursing home. Perhaps, we should decide which city we want to move to. We can have an extra room for our fabric stash and books which I think we might have duplicates. And I can’t wait to see your secret quilting, too much suspense. I’m thinking of telling you I have secret sewing when I actually don’t to see how you feel. hee hee!
