Blue Burst Tablerunner
My Blue Burst Tablerunner is another of my languishing UFOs. I’m happy to show it to you today as a finished quilt.
This tablerunner was a kit I purchased many years ago. For those of you who have been following my blog for awhile or know me personally, you will know that this tablerunner is definitely not in my usual colors. I have no recollection of why I bought this kit, other than that it just caught my eye.
The kit was purchased from Gathering Friends Quilt Shop in Bird Island, Minnesota. I believe the pattern is one that they designed. I have no information on the fabric in the kit, except that it’s old enough that it likely is no longer available.
The pattern went together well. Once I had the top done, it languished again in my UFO stack until now. So I got to work with the quilting. I had planned to keep it pretty simple, but as I went along I added more to it than I had planned. It was an enjoyable process.
I did a simple design in the blue starburst designs, just sewing an arc from corner to corner. Hopefully you can see the design in this photo.
I used Aurifil blue #2720 to quilt the blue starbursts. Once the starbursts were done, I used Aurifil yellow #2130 to quilt the yellow rays. I initially intended to do three simple rays, but then I just thought it needed more.
Here’s another photo of the quilt draped over a chair with the sunlight highlighting the quilting.
For the inner green border, I quilted around the edges with Aurifil green #2840.
Then, using Aurifil pink #2423 I quilted my favorite wavy lines in the outer borders, to add a little softness after the dramatic straight lines.
The kit included the backing fabric, which is a pretty little floral print.
Of course, I couldn’t finish without taking a few glam shots. The first one is the full runner on my kitchen counter.
Then a close up of the candle centered in one of the bursts. I like the way the rays just seem to shoot out from the blue burst.
And that’s one more UFO to cross off my list! Yippee!
What’s making you happy dance today?

Your quilting really takes this runner up several notches;) Did you use a ruler for the curves on the star? It is a pretty runner and it’s no longer a UFO-a win win!!

it turned out great even if as you say it is not your style. I like the colors and the design

Maybe what caught your eye was the stars, as you might have imagined how you’d quilt them. Such a gorgeous table runner, and the quilting is so beautiful! Congratulations on another UFO finishes. For me, they are far and few between and need to be celebrated! Thanks for linking up to Wednesday Wait Loss. We’ve missed you1

Hi Wendy! No, this does not look like your usual color palette but it is still a fabulous finish. I love how you quilted it, especially those rays coming out from the center! Really nice job, and your glam shots look great. I love the candle touches! Happy Wednesday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne

I agree with Vicki! The quilting notched this one up a LOT! The rays bursting out of the stars are really super and I love the effect. You’re right about it not being your colors, but don’t let that stop you from keeping it and using it so you can admire your pretty design 🙂

Congrats on the finish! I love the quilting – and sometimes these projects are just the ones to do a little more than we normally would. I like to try it on things I don’t really know where they are going – they give me a little more freedom. Nice finish and if you don’t love the fabric, it is a lovely housewarming gift!

Congratulations on putting this UFO to bed. Love the quilting too. You know, those blue roses look like fish eyes (or sunglasses) giving you the look from just over the binding 😀

Wendy, you are just killing it lately! So productive. It is inspiring for me. Love the quilting. Smaller projects like this are such a good way to practice quilting. Very nice!

Love that ‘rays’ quilting, just perfect! I bet it looks amazing when the candles are lit! What a fabulous design, but you KNOW I’d love it with the star superimposed on another star. 🙂

It’s a lovely runner, and now you finally get to enjoy it! The quilting fits it perfectly!
