Burst Mini Finish
My Burst Mini is finished. It’s been awhile since I’ve had a Friday finish, so I’m feeling very happy.
You might recall this photo that I showed you in my earlier post. I took this in my quilt room; the quilt top is pinned to my wall. Wait until you see the new photos that I took in the morning hours on our deck.
Are you as surprised as I am at the difference in color?! The purple in the morning light is so pretty. This is definitely a better capture of the colors of the fabrics.
Initially I quilted a spiral in each of the larger squares. However, I made a huge mistake and ended up picking out the stitching. That’s for another blog post!
Using Aurifil 50 wt. thread in Violet (#2520), I echoed the squares, stitching about an inch apart. When both squares were stitched, it created a fun design in the smaller patterned square.
In the dark purple borders, I continued with straight line quilting using Aurifil 50 wt in Dark Violet (#2582).
I just couldn’t use the dark purple for the quilt back. I had this pretty batik in my stash that worked well.
The finished quilt measures 18 x 25 inches. The pattern is the Cross Check & Single Burst Mini Quilt Patterns, a PDF pattern from Quilting Jetgirl. If mini quilts aren’t your thing and you like to go big, check out her Sunburst Digital Quilt pattern. That one is on my bucket list!
This is my DrEAMi project for this month!

Enjoy your weekend, everyone! Will you be quilting?

Those purples look lovely in the light of day.

Funny how day light can change the colors that much. I really like how it happened to be cross hatching in the center.

I love how you ended up quilting it! We should be able to get a lot more of those fab outdoor photos now.

Hi Wendy! Wow, what a difference in using natural light. And before the sun gets too strong really makes a difference too, so the colors aren’t washed out. Really nice piece! I love the different purples, and how you quilted it. I always have a hard time knowing where to turn when following the shape of the block in the borders. I probably should mark it but who has time for that?!! ~smile~ Roseanne

Looks great. I love mini quilts as a fun little snack while I work on larger quilts. I’ve worked hard over the past year trying to get my oldest quilts finished, but it’s fun to start something new too. I rely on mini quilts to satisfy the urge to work on something new and different while not making a larger commitment.

you are really getting into mini’s – what do you plan to do with them – wall art?

Purple is particularly hard to capture in a photo, I think. Your mini turned out great, and the echoed squares quilting is just right. Are you going to share your “oops” spiral in Bernie’s link up? I’ve been documenting my mistakes this week…plenty to share, ha ha! 🙂

Wonderful finish, I might just have to try one of these quilts. So striking in their color play.

I love to take my pictures outside when the weather permits. Your straight line quilting is perfect for this mini.

So pretty Wendy. Great job with the color choices so you got that transparency effect! I also like Yvonne’s full size pattern. Just lovely all the way around.

Gorgeous, Wendy, the difference in colour between the photos is amazing!

That turned out beautifully! I love the backing fabric! I had the same thing happen with my little purple pincushion from last week – purples are definitely tricky to photograph.

What a difference daylight makes – even in our moods at this time of year…everything seems a little lighter doesn’t it. I love the purples and the quilting you did on it. Gosh, we do hate our mistakes don’t we and picking out is never fun!

Another wonderful DrEAMi! project! Love these rich purples and yes, that batik on the back is a wonderful choice. You did a terrific job at the transparency and the quilting, too! Thank you for linking up with DrEAMi! btw that is just crazy the difference from sewing room light to outside light.

It’s amazing how lighting can really change the color of something. I love everything about his mini! From that lovely batik on the back to the quilting to the fabric. Congrats on finishing!!!
