Catching Up

Hi everyone! I’m catching up today, having missed all the holiday celebrating due to Covid. Hubs and I decided to both get sick right before Christmas, so everything was put on hold. I’m back and healthy once again, and I’m ready to link up with Carol of Quilt Schmilt for the To Do Tuesday Linky Party today. Carol is taking over To Do Tuesday for Texas Quilt Gal, who did such a great job of keeping this linky going – thanks, Linda! I know Carol will also do well leading us onward, and I’m excited to link up with for the first time today.

Not much sewing happened, obviously, while we were sick. I slept alot, even when I was tired of sleeping! It was not serious, more like having a miserable cold. Here’s a photo of my me (sans makeup, sorry) and my mood.

Wendy having a cup of tea in her Grinch mug

Yes, that’s a Grinch mug, which was given to me many years ago by a favorite nephew who knows me too well. I didn’t intend to post this photo since it was really just for my kids, but I thought you’d enjoy the sentiment.

When we weren’t sleeping, we slurped a lot of chicken noodle soup, and ramen. It was as good a time as any to practice my woeful chopstick skills.

While I was napping, hubs did get some work done on the quilt room renov. It actually looks like a room now!

Next up is taping and sanding. Paint has been chosen, and we have a plan for the design wall, so those two things are coming up soon. I’ll keep you posted as we do more.

The last time I posted for TDT, I had three things listed:

  • Endeavourers Challenge Quilt (due Feb. 1st)
  • SAHRR Center Block
  • Pattern Test Block

I’m happy to say that the challenge quilt is well underway. I really wish I could show it to you because I am having so much fun, but I can’t even give you a peek because it would give too much away. So you’ll just have to come back on February 1st and see the reveal.

The Stay at Home Round Robin 2023 (SAHRR 2023) is just around the corner. Hosted by Quilting Gail, six of us join together for this fun sew along. The center block reveal is on January 16, so I’ll show you what I’m cooking up for this year. You can find out more information about  SAHRR 2023 here. I hope you join us!

If you’d like to see my past SAHRR quilts just click on the link:

I did get the pattern test block done, too, and I’ll share a photo of that block soon!

A few days after the start of SAHRR 2023, I’ll be participating in the Villa Rosa Designs Fast & Fun Blog Hop, and I’m busy getting my project finished up.

I'll be participating in the Villa Rosa Fast & Fun Blog Hop, January 19th - 26th - piecefulthoughts.com

For this week, I’ll be working on those projects once again.

  • Endeavourers Challenge Quilt
  • Villa Rosa Fast & Fun finish
  • SAHRR 2023

Of course, while I should be catching up, I’m busy getting sidetracked, as usual. I jumped in with Persimon Dreams’ Project Quilting once again this year. I had a little fun whipping up a quick project, and I’ll show it to you in tomorrow’s post. Stop back for a peek!

Wow. For someone who has been ill you have accomplished a lot. Looking forward to your revealings.
Your quilt room is fabulous. It’s going to be wonderful. I confess to twinges of envy when I read of your plans for a design wall.
Sorry your Christmas was spoilt, but here’s to an inspired new year.

So sorry you guys had to be sick for the Holidays, but so happy you are all better. Your room is going to come together fast now I think! Lots of goodness on your quilting plate;)

  • texasquiltgal

You look great sans makeup – where are your wrinkles?? Did Wilbs tend to you while you were ill? OK I’m full of questions, but is your new room a “walkout” basement? Anyhoo, it is coming right along. Looking forward to the Villa Rosa thing!

  • The Morning Latte

Ha love the mug! So glad you are all on the mend. Your room is looking great; I’m jealous of the doors/view to the outside, and I’m envisioning mini quilts on that beam–my husband would cringe though. It’s just that I recently saw a large art studio that I thought would make the greatest quilt studio and it had these beams going across (with a vaulted ceiling above) and all I could think was how I’d hang quilt on them. Anyway, thanks for the update pic–can’t wait to see more! Chopsticks! I start those meals out thinking how they certainly add to the experience and about halfway in, I chuck ’em and wonder why anyone would? when there are perfectly good forks and spoons invented. It’s mostly my lack of patience tho. Good luck on your to-do’s!

  • Karen

so sorry you had covid – this is the second time isn’t it? I gave my daughter that same old Grinch mug just last month!! Hobby Lobby had it. you look great – and that sewing room! I’m envious of the doors with so much light will come in and you can watch your winter storms when you are in there. Is it a part of a basement?

    • Diann@ Little Penguin Quilts

Wendy, I’m so sorry you got the Crud – again! Your photo with the Grinch mug is a hoot! Perfect sentiment. Glad you’re feeling better, and getting some sewing done. Looking forward to seeing those items on your list – enjoy those finishes!

      • Melody

Sorry to hear you’ve been sick, you’re still looking good even if you are a little “grinchy”! Can’t wait to see all your upcoming projects!

  • Cocoa Quilts

Sorry about the covid, but at least you were both down at the same time. Love the grinch mug!!! Glad you are feeling better since that is a good list of things coming up

  • Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl

I am sorry to hear that you both got Covid. It honestly feels a bit inevitable for us, but I would like to keep my husband away from it if I can (since he has some pretty gnarly lung damage). I’m glad you are feeling better and I am really looking forward to seeing your entry for Project Quilting!

Good morning, Wendy! Nut to having COVID. I got it around the same time you did. It put a kibosh on the holiday celebrations. LOVE the Grinch mug!! You look great without makeup. The quilt room reno is coming along nicely. You’ll have a really nice room with a view when it’s complete. And a walkout at that! Nice. You’ve got a lot on your plate for the coming weeks. Good luck with you list for the week. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  • Laura

Well that just stinks that you got that crud again! I am so glad to hear that it wasn’t too serious and that you both are recovering nicely! Love that Grinch mug! Thanks for the peek at your new studio, I am so excited for you! 🙂

  • Bonnie in Va

Love the Grinch mug — outstanding. Hum, that picture says you’ve let your hair grow since you took your info photo for your blog. (Me too, actually.) Looking forward to seeing what’s happening with the SAHRR event. But I’m too busy trying to complete last year’s list of UFOs. Hopefully I’ll finish the last bit today or tomorrow,

  • Katherine Duquette

Wendy, nice to hear your back and on the mend. I am sure everyone has wished you the best. You have a busy agenda for the next few weeks so enjoy the new year and all the adventures and sewing ahead.

  • Kathleen McCormick

The picture does say it all! I am glad you are feeling better and look forward to seeing all the wonderful things you have planned. Speaking of plans, looking at blocks and fabric for SAHRR today…seeing what lurks and will be inspiring!

  • Rochelle Summers

That was a bummer…getting sick with anything for the holidays. Got the crud last week in time for our next bout of bad weather. Not much sewing going on or reading either since my eyes hurt. Hopefully we are all on the road to recovery. I’m looking forward to your Villa Rosa blog hop. I’ve met Pat who started Villa Rosa Quilts and wonder if she is still running the business. Great to see progress on the sewing room.

  • Vicki Welsh

So glad you are feeling better and that it wasn’t too serious. I remember a year when I was young when both of my parents got the flu over Christmas. How they got through that with 4 kids, I’ll never know! I am totally envious of your Grinch mug.

  • Sandra Healy

Sorry to hear you were poorly and Grinchy over Christmas, Wendy. I guess you at least have Covid over with for a while. The sewing room’s starting to look v exciting. I can’t wait to see it finished.

  • Texas Quilter

Sorry to hear you and hubby were sick! We cancelled a trip to Rockport in early December because they indicated a lot of “crud” was going around. Last Christmas we stayed at Rockport and came home sick for a month. So we will be content to stay home and I can catch up on lots of quilting. The illegals have brought all their illnesses to us – Either that or those who took the Vaccine still have a weak immune system and are getting the Flu this year. We did not take Vaccine. Take care and I missed your posts! Hugs.

  • Nancy @ Grace and Peace Quilting

Your new room is looking so good!!! BJ is doing great, considering you both had c@vid again. Glad you’re back up and sewing. How did you get in on the Villa Rosa blog hop? I love their simple designs!

  • Mari

You must be feeling much better, what with all the stitching you’re going to be doing. Your new room looks like a room, and like it will be a great studio. Looking forward to the SAHRR! Probably best to lie down a lot so that you don’t relapse!

  • Carol Andrews

Wendy I’m so sorry to hear you had IT again. I confess to being heartbroken over how many people I know who have had it at least once. I think you look great sans makeup and am wishing I had a Grinch mug (besides having a Grinch). So glad you are moving your projects along and getting things done. Your studio is really taking shape. So much fun to see the progress. Now I’d better finish a pattern test and decide on what I’m going to do for a block for SAHRR. Good luck with this week’s list. Thank you for linking with To Do Tuesday. 😉

  • Quilting is in my Blood

You’re not the only one who is catching up, it’s also me catching up with reading blog posts and making some comments. Sorry to hear about you getting Covid again. I do like the pic with you and the Grinch mug. There are times I totally relate. Hope you continue to feel better!

  • Kathryn

So sorry you went down with Covid just before Christmas. And yes love the Grinch mug and you photo. Priceless. All the best with your upcoming plans and I hope you will be energy filled and like yourself again.
