Cool Tool Monday

It’s Cool Tool Monday and I have some new quilting tools to show you today. New to me, at least. I picked them up at the MInnesota Quilt Show this weekend.

Basic Tools

Cool Tool Monday - Love these little Janome Spool Holders when I'm using Aurifil thread - piecefulthoughts.com

There are never enough bobbins, right? There was a good deal on them at the show, so this pack came home with me. The little spool holders are backups in case I lose the ones that came with my machine. They work great with  Aurifil thread.

New Tools

I’m so excited to try these chalk pencils. What’s unique about them? Once you have finished your stitching, the chalk can be removed with either a lint brush or by ironing over it. You can also wash it out. This is a new product to me and is sold by Full Line Stencil. Have you used this pencil? I’d love to hear about it.

I do quite a bit of handwork in the evenings while I watch a show. Sometimes I have a difficult time seeing my work, even with the lamp that sits next to my chair. This cool tool was recommended by a friend.

Cool Tool Monday - Beam n Read light, to help with close up handwork

This lamp, worn like a necklace, has two levels of light – low and high. The LED lights are nice and bright.

The neck cord is adjustable, and it’s battery powered. I can see this coming in handy for more than quilting! You can find it on Amazon.

By the way, I’m not an affiliate of any of these companies.

I had a great time at the quilt show. In my next post, I’ll tell you about the class I took and show you my project from the class.

What about you? Have you used any of these quilting tools, or do you have a favorite one to tell me about?

Linking up today with Beth at Cooking Up Quilts.

Happy Stitching!

You hit he nail on the head, you can never have too many bobbins. Especially if you do much quilting. I’m always getting new color threads for quilting. Do let us know how the chalk pencil works out. I’m always looking for better marking tools. That little light really looks like it will work great. Glad to hear you had so much fun at the show and can’t wait to hear more.

I love those little spool holders and should pick up a couple more myself, and yes I seem to be always searching for bobbins so that’s a good buy. I’ve never seen a light like that it looks like a good purchase.

I could use a box of bobbins too. I’m anxious to hear how you like your chalk pencils. I haven’t seen them.

I have used chalk pencils like that before and LOVE them. Mine is much fatter and older;) and is called Miracle chalk I think. Many years ago I also found it in a thin bar form(like soap) but it didn’t have a brand on it. I wish they made it in another color for white fabrics!

Thanks for sharing! It’s always cool to hear about new tools and notions. I love notions, I don’t feel guilty for buying them like I do fabric!

I have one of those lamps. It’s been hard to get it adjusted so that it doesn’t cast the shadow of my hand on my work. I like my head lamp better, but it gives me a hat head. The sacrifices we make for our art.

Love the idea of the chalk pencil and hope to hear how it works for you. I recently bought a handful of new bobbins and I feel rich now. I was in need – and actually – still need more as I have filled all of the new ones already!

Isn’t it fun to go to these shows and see all these interesting ideas? I am going to check out those chalk pencils. I was using a thin #2 mechanical pencil for marking, but just had a problem with the lead not washing out of a pillow cover. Time to try something new! Thanks for the “cool tool” post!

Putting the necklace light on my birthday wish list! I like to stitch but not have the over head lights on during a movie. Thanks for the tools tips!

I have seen chalk that you can iron to get rid of, but not in pencils quite as nice as yours look. Mine is really fat, which makes it hard to get a good, accurate line. I use my hiking headlamp when I do hand stitching on the couch (or the campsite!) and it works really well. I keep it in my hand stitching bag. I hope you enjoy your new cool tools!

I don’t have any of these tools (except extra bobbins.) What does the bobbin holder do? Does it attach to your machine? Curious to hear how you like the chalk pencils!
