DrEAMi Drama

This DrEAMi (Drop Everything and Make It) drama all began with a pattern I won, a Kaffe Fassett fat quarter, and my goofiness. I managed to sneak this in just as June comes to a close, whipping this up today. I seriously dropped everything and made it.

While I don’t normally post on Saturdays, I wanted to get this little squirrel added to Sandra’s linky party over at mmm!Quilts. I stitched along on the Beothuk Star QAL that was hosted by Sandra, and as a result, I won a gift certificate to Sew Fresh Quilts. I chose this pattern as part of my purchase. I’ve been itching to make one of these ever since, and today, it just had to be made!

Meet Lucille.

She’s a llama with a little drama. She prefers a little flair and has the personality to go with it. She had a thing or two to tell me while we were stitching together. I’m particularly enthralled with her hair, thanks to Kaffe Fassett. It all began with the hair – isn’t that often the case?

Lucille is just a petite little lady, with a “waist” measuring 10″ and her height at 20″. She preferred having a background that looked a bit celebratory, so I used a leftover piece of fabric from the background of my Fireburst quilt. That should be celebratory enough, don’t you think?

We had quite a discussion about her bandana. She really wanted to go a little wild, but I suggested that perhaps a tame bandana today and something a little more crazy another time. She came around to my way of thinking.

No fancy quilting for Lucille. She just wanted straight lines that draw the eye up and down, so she continues to look trim. And of course, a green binding to match, because green is keen. Even the backing fabric from my scrap bin has a little keen green in it.

Lucille will be joining friends on my mini quilt wall in my quilt room, where she will keep an eye on me while I’m chasing squirrels and creating other drama.

If you want a little llama drama of your own, trot on over to Sew Fresh Quilts and snag a pattern. Lorna’s pattern was so well done. There is very little fabric required for this cute llama; you can create the entire quilt from your scraps or your stash. And it can be done in an afternoon, start to finish!

Meanwhile, there’s another squirrel half done in my sewing room. It’s possible you’ll see a partial finish of that one on Monday. Unless there’s more llama drama going on . . .

See you Monday!

Wendy
