Eva’s SAHRR Finish

Eva’s SAHRR finish – are you ready to see it? The elephants are on parade, so let’s take a peek.

For the last border, Letters and Numbers, Eva found this fun text fabric and made some corner blocks.

She also added a border with text, with some encouraging words for the recipients to read while snuggled under the quilt.

Eva says she didn’t calculate for the size of the quilt, and before she knew it, it was a bed size quilt. I think every stitch was worth it – this quilt is going to be enjoyed for years to come! Here’s a peek of the quilt folded in half, so you can see each of the rows.

And here is the full quilt, as much as she could get into the photo! You might want to see Eva’s 2023 quilt too, which she made to remind her of a favorite trip. Look closely and you will see elephants in that quilt, too!

Now she is thinking about the quilting while she takes a little break from the rush of getting this top done. Feel free to leave comments for Eva below – she reads and responds to each one. Thanks for taking a look at Eva’s SAHRR Finish! !

Hannah, thank you so much – yes – and I am happy to see the end result. In the meantime I was not sure if it works. But Wendy always was on my site and helped me and motivated me so much to go on. And she is posting my work, to I am very thankful for this.

  • Tracie Henkel

Wow, Eva, your quilt looks great! My sister collects elephants and she would love your quilt too.

    • Eva

Thank you Tracie, this elephant fabric waited so long to be used and when we started SAHRR 2024 I immediately now what to do and my friend loves elephants – so it was a win-win situation. The elephants will have a nicer home than im boxes.

Hello Eva, your SAHRR 2024 looks very very nice. Congratulations! I hope, that I get the chance to see it with my own eyes the original.

        Hello Wendy,
it is very nice and friendly to post the SAHRR of Eva. She is a very good friend of mine. 🙂

        Best wish Cathrin from Germany

        • Eva

Cathrin, sure… you can see the original!!! No long flight…. Lol
Yes, really really nice that Wendy takes me under her wings!

          Thank you… 😘

Fun, Eva!! Love the pinwheels and all those fun elephants! My niece’s favorite animal is elephant and she would love this!!!

    • Eva

Nancy, ohh the pinwheels… I am not a lover of doing xx time the same, but have to do that here. Bit my tees together and just do… just sew.. don’t think, just do. But yes, I am impressed as well about the result. I never calculate and measure, but luckily the white pinwheel border really turns the face of the quilt. Following the rule some contrasts, in each row and on total. I am really happy that it works. The “learning effect” of SAHRR is so great.

Eva,, you have created such a beautiful quilt that I’m sure will bring happiness and joy to the family you are gifting it to. All the little details you included make this a wonderful keepsake. Congratulations on a challenge well done.

    • Eva

Thank you so much for this kind comment. Oh yes, now it is big enough for the couch and the bed… and will make them all happy hence it is finished. To stay on track during the weeks is not easy but this group here motivates so much and especially my big thanks goes to Wendy, who always was a great great mentor and motivator.

    • Eva

What a lovely compliment, yes it is really a challenge to work with different fabrics.
Some are softer than others … and this makes it complicated to quilt. I think I have to quilt by hand as well.
      But love this work.

    • Eva

Hi Kate, yes it is easy .. if you don’t run out of fabric of the ones you want to use!
Luckily I had it this time. But this is only the top the back is waiting now. Will use scraps.

    • Eva

      Thank you Kate! 🙂
oh yes, it makes so much fun to participate. I am really thinking about which project I can take in 2025.

  • Kathleen McCormick

Eva, you did a fabulous job incorporating letters into this weeks prompt. It is a gorgeous quilt and your friends will love this and feel the love in every stitch and decision you made while making it!

    • Eva

Kathleen, thank you so much for your compliment. The task with the letters was the biggest task… lol
I took such a deep dive into my stash … and I always love to add a little bit of black and white, if gives more “power” to the colours (in my opinion). It was very complicated because no “hard” colours here, not crying, so real black and white were not sufficient. And for luck I found it last minute Sunday morning!!

    • eva

Thank you for finding time for a comment, Ivonne! Hope you (!) are recovered from QuiltCon. Now we have a “prominent” quilter here… :-)) Thank you for your time to write!!
And I am so thankfull that Wendy showed my work.

Take well deserved break Eva – your quilt is just beautiful. How wonderful that it will always reflect the thought and love and care that you put into it. I love the colors as well as all your well-placed blocks!

    • Eva

Linda, thank you so much for your very nice words and compliment “well-placed blocks”. This means a lot for me. If you work in your room – you are never sure if it is really good or not. And the best, it is finished!! Without timeline, I would not speed up. it was 1.30h in the morning am!

    • Eva

Diann, thank you for your nice comment. I can tell all who are not sure if they be able to do, try it next year… it makes so much fun and it is a training to understand how colour works together, work down the mount scrap and having a result and not the 99. UFO.

      • Eva

        Oh Mariss,
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Its so nice that you like it.
You are well familiarized with this nice animals I guess. And yes, I love them.

    • Eva

Janine, thanks for your comment. Checked your page and wow… your work is lovely too. And you did what I like … put black into the quilt. I love your pictures of the process.
Working with off white and colour will be one of my next plans…. As well I am not patience for wedding rings, and you found a perfect way to produce sich a wonderfull quilt!

  • Laura

Eva, you were up to the challenge and then some! Like others, my favorites are the fun pinwheels and elephants! This is a very creative quilt and will be a joy to snuggle with! 🙂

    • Eva

Laura, thanks for your comment! My friend will do that for sure hence it is finished.
I found a real cool fabric for the back… but there a three quilts to finish!
And I will handquilt this as well.
Thanks for your kind comment 😘

  • JanineMarie

Fabulous finish! I like how the inclusion of the text is subtle and striking at the same time. It’s been fun watching this quilt grow, and I’m glad you were able to show us through Wendy’s site.

  • laura bruno lilly

Eva: fantastic! Funny how quilts seem to have a mind of their own and can grow into their own determined size! HA!
One question: I’ve gathered English is not your first language and that you live in a country outside the US & UK. Are there fabrics in shops where you live that have your native language printed on them? The fabrics you used are artistic of course, but I admit to being surprised seeing your text fabrics in English.
Please, I hope you don’t take this in a ‘wrong’ way…just wondering.

    • Eva

Laura, thank for your comments and asking. No, I dont take that wrong. Its Germany where I live. But, the fabric production of all the lovely fabrics are done mostly in the States. And our dealers buy in the states, so it is all in english. The dealer of shops have to pay a lot for shipment, duty and tax! Thats why fabric is around 20 dollar a yard … approx.
In Corona times it was extremly hard to get fabrics!
May be there are some… but I love to shop oversea! Some holidays we spend in the US and I visited some shops!! Does this help to understand? If not, write again!
