Eva’s Spool Border

I have Eva’s Spool Border for the Stay at Home Round Robin or SAHRR, as we know it,  to show you today. Eva has made a fantastic border for her block.

If you recall, this is Eva’s center block:

This quilt has special meaning for Eva. It is a memory of a trip to South Africa she and her husband took a few years ago. What a fun way to celebrate the memory of that trip!

I was curious what Eva was going to do for the spool border. When she told me her idea, I was so curious how she was going to make it work. (I’m having so much fun watching Eva work through her quilt!)

Eva remembers that at the end of the day, when it was time for the evening meal, the drums would sound, calling them to gather. So she created spools that look a bit like the drums she remembers from that trip.

Isn’t that clever?! She pieced the little improv drums without using any rulers, just playing and having fun. Here are two of them a little closer so you can see the details.

Another little memory that Eva added to her border was to use a bit of the Shweshwe fabric she was able to bring home with her from the trip. I forgot to ask her, but I wonder if it’s the print in the drum on the left.

Eva is waiting to find out the reveal of the next border – I hope you are, too! The next border is my round, and I’ll be sharing that with you on Monday.

In the meantime – don’t forget to link up your spool border posts with Roseanne and Sue at Home Sewn By Us. Click on this link to take you to their post.

Feel free to leave Eva a comment below, and I’ll make sure she sees them!

Happy Stitching, all!
