Fall Forest

My Fall Forest quilt is finished and ready for display. This is, hands down, one of my favorite quilts made this year.

I made my Fall Forest using the Painted Forest pattern by Blue Nickel Studios. Measuring 60″ square, my quilt is made from scraps, using low volume whites for the background and prints for the trees. The blocks sizes vary in width, from 8 inches to 12 inches, and they are 25 inches in height. It is a very enjoyable pattern and great for scraps!

Some of you know I had planned to quilt this myself, but after giving that some thought, and not wanting to wrangle a large quilt with my domestic, I asked Connie to do the quilting for me. As soon as I laid out the quilt, she knew exactly what she thought would work – tumbling leaves.

Wisps of wind with tumbling leaves – can’t you just hear the leaves crunching under your feet? The design works really well with the theme of the quilt.

It’s difficult to see in the photos, but from time to time, Connie stopped the machine and switched out thread colors to keep with my scrappy theme. Isn’t that cool?!

I pulled out my binding scraps and put some of them to use along with the low volume whites. With smaller quilts, when I piece the binding with scraps, I pin it on beforehand to avoid getting a seam in the corners. I dove right in with this one without pinning, and it worked well (phew). The backing fabric is a wide back of Brandon Mabley’s Onion Rings, which look a bit like tree rings, don’t you think?

Wilbs, of course, had to check it out.

Not even treats could entice him off the quilt so I could take a photo. I guess he likes it, too!

Fall Forest will soon be hung in our living room. I’m very excited to have it ready in time for my fall decor. I’ll definitely keep this pattern in my stack of favorites!

Wow, that is really, really quite something. I absolutely love it. I wish I had the energy and patience because it would be so much fun to make, I think. I am really old and only do small things anymore. Maybe I could do a doll quilt with just one tree. Is the pattern available?

It’s quite amazing what a difference the quilting makes. I bet it’s fun to see it for the first time after the quilting is done. I’m guessing it’s never a disappointment.

I can see why this is one of your favorites – it is a knock out. I love the colors and the neutral backgrounds…all such fun. Connie did a fabulous job bringing it to life. The little bits of color in the binding is perfect…and I get the pinning thing and am glad it worked out. Gorgeous finish – does it have a home?

Wendy, you have a real keeper here. This is such a beautiful quilt with all the colors and Connie’s lovely quilting. I love your scraps!! This should be displayed all year long. Perhaps tree quilts for each season is another idea! You have been so creative this year and continue to amaze me each time I open your posts.
