February Color Challenge Block

February is flying by, so it’s time for me to share my February Color Challenge block as I sew along with Patterns by Jen and her 2021 Monthly Color Challenge.

Jen wisely chose the color yellow for this month’s block, given those of us in the Midwest are slogging through winter and often gray, dreary, frigid days. A little ray of lemon-y yellow sunshine is just the ticket.

I think perhaps these are the only two lemon yellow scraps I have in my entire stash. I had to dig deep to find them, but they match that lemon pretty well, don’t they?

This is my third year sewing along with Jen, and this year she offers two block size options – a 12-inch or a 6-inch. I’ve opted to sew the 6-inch version this year. You can find all the information about the challenge here. The block for each month is a free download through the month; after that, it’s available for a nominal fee. You can find the February block here. The blocks go together quickly and can easily be made from your stash. Feel free to join in and sew along!

Since our theme for this challenge is all about fruits and veggies, I’ll share one of my favorite cleaning tips using a lemon. I have a few wooden cutting boards in my kitchen. To clean them, I use lemon and salt. Sprinkle some salt on the cutting board, then squeeze the lemon juice over the salt, and scrub thoroughly with the lemon rind. Toss the rind when done, and rinse the board with water. Done. It cuts through grease, removes odors and makes the cutting board ready its next use.

I hope you enjoyed this little ray of sunshine as I shared my February Color Challenge Block with you. If you’d like to see my January block, you can read about that here
