Finally Friday
It’s been a busy week, y’all. Finally Friday — anyone else with me on that?
There has been very little sewing going on over here at Pieceful Thoughts. I’ve lost a bit of my sewing mojo, but I’ve been playing around at least a little. I do have a couple of little projects to show you today.
Each year, our church asks our missionary families for a wish list of gifts, and we pick gifts to give. One couple asked for gift cards to a coffee shop, so I thought it would be fun to give them matching mug mats. Since I had fabric left over, I made a quick little zippy pouch too. I’ll tuck the gift cards and mug mats in the pouch. The fabric is Perfect Blend by Benartex. It was an easy project with a little improv tossed in. A perfect afternoon of sewing.
While I was visiting my SIL this weekend, she had the Vintage Christmas book (Lori Holt) in her shop. It came home with me. Nita was showing me her little blocks that finish at 6″. Before you know it, that book was in my bag and traveling home with me. There are so many cute blocks. Some of them have lots of little pieces, so labeling is key. This is my first block.
Isn’t the blue Grunge perfect for the background? I’ll finish this as a mini mini quilt and hang it from the little stand my brother made. It will be a great way to kick off the Christmas season, and a good reminder of why we celebrate in the first place.
So that’s my projects for the week. I had planned on making a fun little mini I saw on a blog post, but no matter how I tried, I couldn’t get the templates to print. I gave up on that and decided to scan a pattern to send to Nita, and it wouldn’t work. Once again, I gave up and decided to start a new project because by that time I needed something to cheer me up. I started cutting my first fat quarter for the new project and cut it wrong. Some days are just like that. That’s why I’m happy it’s finally Friday.
Here’s to a pieceful day today, friends! Let’s make it sew!

I like the idea of the mug rugs to go along with the gift cards. Some days it seems as if nothing works right.

Gorgeous little projects, Wendy! I’ve a jelly roll of grunge that I’m just dying to start sewing with but I’ve other projects to finish up first!

every now and then I loose my sewing mojo too and just won’t be in the mood to make something I’m always so glad when it comes back – good idea on making mug rugs to go with the cards and a pouch!

Hi Wendy! Wow, a three strikes and you’re out kind of day. I do love your like mini block for Christmas – so cute and like you said, that blue Grunge is just perfect. What a nice design. I am hoping for a productive weekend . . . but the littles are coming over both days so that may be a foolish wish. ~smile~ Roseanne

I think playing around with little projects is the best way to sew! I love your little mug rugs and zippy pouch. Those are great little gifts! I might need some of that coffee fabric – I’ll have to look around for it! What a sweet Christmas block, too – it will be a perfect mini to display. Happy Friday, Wendy!

Looks like you’re getting some of your mojo back! I love the idea of mug rugs with the gift cards – all enclosed in a zippy bag! Perfect!
And your “Reason for the Season” is lovely!! So simple, yet so full of meaning!
Happy Quilting! 🙂

What a perfect little “the reason for the season” block;))) that grunge is the perfect background…did you piece or applique it? Such an image will give you serenity in the upcoming “craziness” of the holidays…

That manger block is so sweet – I do have a couple of old patterns I have saved for someday….hmm is someday coming? Probably not in 2019 but you never know! The missionary gifts are lovely, especially with your added touch.

When I loose my mojo, I just make myself go back in my sewing room and just pick one thing and do just a little on it. Seeing the little progress spurs me onward. Love your little manger block.

I just saw that Lori Holt book online somewhere and was so tempted. That nativity block is just gorgeous. I think I want the book!

I love your little nativity block. Somewhere I have a whole paper-pieced pattern of the whole scene, including the star, animals, shepherds, and the whole gang. Maybe I’ll get it out one of these days, but you know…paper-piecing. I was totally lazy today. Seems I need a day of rest about once per week…usually on grocery shopping days.

I hate when those little glitches crop up. That nativity block is so cute and I love that blue grunge. I would love to add some of all the grudges to my stash. They are perfect in so many spots.

The little baby Jesus block is the BEST!!! I am declaring it the absolute most perfect block ever. The design is just perfect. So simple and it is immediately clear what the designer wanted to show.
Oh and the mug rugs and zippered pouch is wonderful too. Hope you are staying warm in that frigid north of yours :-p

Well, you certainly got more sewing accomplished last week than I (if that makes you feel any better?)
Love that baby Jesus block – it is just perfect.
Hope this is a better week for you. 🙂

I missed this post somehow! Just caught it featured on UFO Busting. Your little manger scene is adorable! I have that book and will look it up.
