Flashback Friday

I’m sharing a Flashback Friday quilt today. I haven’t posted for over a week! I’m sewing, but on projects that I can’t share yet. I’ve also been doing a little clean up in my quilt room and not much to show on that yet, either, but this little pile of trimmings and the neat little stack of charm squares makes me very happy. (Thanks for the inspiration, Tish!)

October flew past, and now we’re into the holiday season. So my Flashback Friday might as well be a little bit Christmas, right? I will admit that I have one Christmas present already.

I have an abundance of table runners, which is funny because I have no table to put them on. We have a small counter/snack bar that works well for mini runners. So I’m finding new and unusual ways for displaying table runners, but that’s for another post.

I have had this table runner for quite awhile, so long that I can’t recall when I made it. (I know, Sandra — I should be labeling right??!!) It has been folded up and in a bin so long I need to wash it to loosen up the semi-permanent folds.

The fabrics used were from my stash. I believe the pattern is from a book entitled Mostly Tablerunners or Mostly Tablerunners Two. I’m not even sure I still have the book.

Of course, Connie did the quilting on it. I love the detail she put into the trees.

And the star.

The back detail shows the colored thread and creates its own design.

I still have some of that backing fabric in my stash. I’m pretty sure it’s vintage by now.

So I’m curious, how do you display your table runners other than on tables? Do you have a unique display? I’d love to hear about it, because I could use some ideas!

Linking up with Sandra at mmm!Quilts and her Throwback Thursday party.

It’s in the Mostly Table Runners book, I have it and have used all 3 of their books many times. Thanks for sharing:) I use my runners on our table, coffee table, piano and the little cupboard by the front door. But I have been thinking of making something to go on the treadle sewing machine with my seasonal displays(in my spare time ya know!).

Hi Wendy, cute runner – I too have lots of table runners! I display them on my coffee table, counter/bar top, pantry door in the kitchen or door in my office, guest room dresser or bed — Happy Friday!

I only have a few runners so can’t help you there – I never think about Xmas decorations too much in advance and so never have time to make them – I’m one of these people who think too much time is spent on the pre-holiday stuff and prefer to not even decorate until the end of the first week of December at least LOL

I use table runners on coffee tables and other little spots in the house. I have a few shelves that look cute with them. I am sure you can tuck them here or there. I also think they are cute hanging on the wall in spots that support the long rectangular shape. Very cute Wendy!

Hi Wendy! Every single surface in our house has a ‘table runner’ of some sort. We made runners to size so that any beverage has something to absorb the potential spill. I have several antique pieces – because I am really old! – that really should have liquid spilled on them, so runners are the ticket. We have one breakfast bar that has nothing on it. What?!! I’d better get on measuring it and making something right away. HAHA! I love your runner, and that tree bark quilting is cool. (We could do that, right?!) I don’t see why you can’t hang them – on a door or anyplace. And I just said this morning I’m ready to put the tree up – Halloween’s over. Happy Happy Friday! ~smile~ Roseanne

Very cute runner! The only walls on the boat are tiny, skinny slices of wood, so I use runners as wall hangings when I can. They are easier for me to display than even small, lap sized quilts!

Fantastic runner! I’m impressed that you know what exact book it came out of! Love how Connie quilted it, especially that feathered wreath! I, too, need ideas for how to use these. We have one round table. No island anymore or abundant countertops, one coffee table, no end tables (little house). I do put one on our chest of drawers.

Very cute runner. I love making runners and have way more than tables to put them on, so they are frequently over the backs of antique cane chairs or upholstered chairs. I hang some of the shorter ones using those little 3M tabs. They look great on the swinging door between the kitchen and dining room!

That’s a very cute quilt. I love table runners. We actually do have a table, and I put a small one on our breakfast bar too. I’ve been working for several years to have new ones for every season. I’m pretty close now. Still working on some of the “lesser” holidays, like St. Paddy’s day.

This is such a cute runner. I have always loved stippling—and the special quilting in the stars complements it wonderfully. I don’t think I’ve ever made a table runner, but I do make small quilts. I have a magnetic rod on my front door that I hang them on, but I also hang them on various narrow walls.

It’s a delightful table runner. The quilting really gives it personality. I’d find just the right spot to hang it. It would look great vertically or horizontally!

What a lovely runner and the quilting is just right. No great ideas for table runners except some narrow wall space…I use more table toppers and even at that, have few places to put them. I am thinking on my door to the apartment could be a fun place….
