Friday Finishes

I have some Friday finishes to show you today. I’ve hardly been in my sewing room this week, but I have managed to get a few things finished, which always feels good, right?!

My first finish is the Fab Farm quilt that I put together for the sew along with Kathleen McMusing. You can see my Fab Farm quilt top in this post – you’ll also see Kathleen and I, together with Nancy (Grace and Piece Quilting). That was a fun day, meeting Kathleen and spending time with the two of them!

You might remember that I tried a new background color, Grunge in Sweet Lavender for this quilt, and I’m happy with the way it turned out. For the binding, I used Grunge in Ash. I had Connie of Turnberry Lane Quilting & Design do the quilting, and I love the little details she gave to each animal.

She gave the goat a little beard, which brought a smile to my face!

And the chicken got a little fancy, too, on its wing and face!

For the backing, I used a gingham plaid Minky in gray and white. Connie added a low loft cotton batting, and the quilt has a lovely drape. It will be snuggly and comforting to a little one. The finished quilt measures approximately 38″ square.

The last two finishes are two little doll quilts made from leftover pieces of another quilt project. For the quilting, I used scrap pieces of poly batting that I had on hand. For the quilting, I did a quick pin baste and used a serpentine stitch running vertically and horizontally, using a light yellow thread for both quilts.

I used the same backing for both quilts, this lively yellow print from my stash.

Both quilt are bound with a light blue fabric I had on hand. Getting that binding cut had its own bit of challenge.

And that, my friends, is the end of this post sharing my Friday finishes with you! I hope you all enjoy a lovely weekend and plenty of stitching on favorite projects!

The farm quilt is really cute! The quilting is really fun. Congrats on your finishes. It took me a minute to figure out what part of your kitty I was looking at in that last photo!

The Fab Farm quilt turned out so well. I love the goat’s beard! That’s a special quilt. Wendy, I can hear you chuckle as you snapped photos of Wilbs. He is a fun cat!

Love, love, love your Fab Farm quilt!! That Sweet Lavender grunge is fantastic with it! I need to find some of that, I think!! I’m still trying to make sense of the pattern. Maybe one day I’ll get it completed!! Your quilt is good inspiration!! Your other quilt is sweet too! And, of course, Wilbs is just adorable! Such a great helper!! LOL

Your Fab Farm quilt is definitely fabulous, Wendy! That Grunge background is so pretty – you’re inspiring me to try some different background colors. Such cute little doll quilts, too! It looks like you just had fun playing with those leftover scraps. I think Wilbs takes his snoopervisor duties very seriously!!

That barnyard quilt looks so nice. The background fabric was just right and all the quilting details are quite the thing. The two little quilts are so pretty and some little child will love them for their baby. Leave it to Wilbs to provide some “help”. Hope you get more sewing time.

Oh my gosh, those farm animals are adorable. I really like the fabrics you selected too. And aren’t doll quilts fun to make? Great practice for FMQ too.

The farm quilt is soooo cute! I can’t wait until my Grand Niece arrives so I can make her some special quilts. I want to get to know her personality and make a toddler quilt with some sort of animals.

This is a very good finish of the week! The grunge is a perfect back, the quilting is the cherry on the cake (hope this correct wording), and the doll quilts are powerfull. What or to whom you are giving them?
Jealous not to have four helping bears like you have in your sewing room… lol!
This foto makes my day!! Perfect finishes!

What an adorable little farm quilt! Your friend did a great job with the quilting. The doll quilt is adorable, too, and who doesn’t need a little bit of help with binding? 🙂 Have a good weekend!

  • Kathleen McCormick

I love your finished Fab Farm and Connie’s touches are perfect. Does it have a destination yet? The doll quilts are very sweet. Too funny about the help cutting the binding…I assume no cats were harmed in this process.

  • Jocelyn Thurston

So enjoyed seeing these beautiful blocks up close with such special quilting lines, Wendy. And I enjoyed the finishing touch photo too!

SOME? Some Friday Finishes, because one or two would not have been enough to psyche the blogland. Darn you Wendy!!! Such an overachiever and a bigger show-off. Don’t you change 🙂 Big Hugs.
