From The Heart Blog Hop Day 3
It’s From the Heart Blog Hop Day 3, and what a day it is! It’s my turn to show you my little From the Heart project. Many thanks to Carol of Just Let Me Quilt for hosting this fun hop. Have you been gathering ideas and inspiration for the holiday season and beyond? I know I have.
If this is your first time visiting my blog – welcome! I’m Wendy and I live in Minnesota. My husband and I have two adult kids and a ginger cat, Wilbur (Wilbs) who runs the household. I enjoy all types of quilting, especially improv or something with a bit of a challenge. I also like to have a little stash of ideas for quick gifts, and I’m sharing one of those with you today.
This is the Petit Four Basket, a free pattern from Patterns by Annie. The basket measures 2.5″H x 5″W x 4″D. It is so easy to make; a great project for those times you need to whip something up quick.
The basket uses very little fabric – two 10-inch squares will do (left over layer cakes would be perfect). The lining overlaps the outer fabric to create that cool looking “binding”.
I thought it might be fun for you to see how I use these baskets in my sewing room. The might be little, but they hold quite a bit!
I have pens, rotary blades, little rulers, my Binding Baby, a thread cutter, sticky notes, and some mini mini orphan blocks stuffed in there.
Of course, it being a Patterns by Annie design, the stability of the little basket is from Soft & Stable. Have you used it? I really do like it for bins, bags and baskets. (I’m not an affiliate – I just like her stuff.)
What else could you put in the basket? Well, I’m glad you asked. Here’s a few ideas.
A little basket full of thread, or a basket full of four fat quarters (folded over the long way), or a basket full of thread pacifiers (that’s what they look like to me – ha). Here are a couple more ideas:
They are a great holder for clips; you can even clip the clips to the sides of the basket so they are easier to grab. Of course, holding chocolate is always a good idea, right?
Just think how fun it would be to fill one of these little baskets with some goodies for the babysitter, the mailman, a neighbor, or your sewing sisters!
If you’re interested in making a Petit Four Basket, you can find the pattern right here. I hope you give it a try.
From the Heart Blog Hop Day 3 wouldn’t be complete without a listing of the others who are joining me with their projects today. Here they are – I hope you stop by and check out their projects too.

Yes I too noticed how professional looking your basket is! Great work my friend! The one looks like improv piecing, is it? Funny you should call them thread pacifiers as the other day you had some in a pic and I thought they looked like pacifiers also!

This was a great post for gift ideas! I have the pattern printed, so I’ll set it aside while unpacking. I even have a bit of Soft and Stable. I love the little basket you made me!

I love those Petit Four baskets. I have made several myself. They are the best gifts too.

so many different ways to use those baskets! I have used soft and stable and have a package of pieces leftover from a tote bag that I made a couple years ago

One can never have too many baskets, especially when they are as cute as yours. Filling them with goodies, like chocolate, makes them even more yummy! I love Annie’s patterns and have made a few. Thank you, sweet Wendy, for sharing your beautiful basket.

So cute, Wendy!! I’ve wanted to make that basket pattern. I love all of your assorted filler ideas! One for the postman–great idea!!!

These baskets look great and so useful. I enjoyed seeing your collection 🙂

SO cute!! I use a tiny basket like that beside my sewing machine as a thread catcher. I like the idea of putting fat quarters inside and giving it as a gift…but the candy idea is even better!!
Quilting is in my Blood
What a wonderful tiny basket. I’ll definitely have to download the pattern. It doesn’t seem like that stabilizer would be really thick to sew through. Have a great day, Mary

Hi Wendy! Dang, that is a cute little basket. I actually made one for a friend. I filled it to the brim with mini Kit Kat bars because . . . break me off a piece of that Kit Kat bar . . . who doesn’t like them?! I adore the fabrics you chose! ~smile~ Roseanne

You had me at chocolate, lol! But, no matter what you can put in one of those adorable baskets, I think I might need one! I’m even thinking I already have a piece of Soft and Stable that might be the right size. Cute baskets, Wendy – thanks for the inspiration!

Super cute Wendy. These would make fun gifts for anyone – just fill them with whatever works for the recipient. So fun!

So cute! I think I need one at my desk while I’m working from home for post-its and such, the area next to my laptop is super cluttered.

You know how little kids learning language sometimes get words wrong then they stick forever as family words? That cute little box would be known as a “put-stuff-in” around my house. ha ha ha
The Joyful Quilter
I’m BIG on baskets, bags, and bins! Thanks for sharing these with the Hop, Wendy. FREE is a very good price for a pattern and who doesn’t have some 10″ squares somewhere in their sewing room?!?! :o))

I like all the things you can put in this little basket. Keeping selected threads together when I am quilting a project is always desirable and this would be just the ticket. Thank you for the great photos…especially the one with the chocolate.

Adorable little baskets, especially the one with the chocolate in it! I think it would be great to have these on hand for little gifts for the holidays for sure! I LOVE that they use up orphan layer cake pieces and–gosh darn it, I think I found a squirrel project for tomorrow!! (just as soon as I get the last 4 rows sewn on my quilt top!)
Patti
Cute, useful, great gift idea and downloaded! Thanks for your tips on all the different and handy ways for these little baskets.

Ooh I like these baskets. Thanks for the link. I bet these baskets can be easily made to a shoe box size, just channeling some Wilbs’ thought.
