Fruity Finish
I have a fruity finish to share with you today, and a UFO to boot! I finally finished my pineapple quilt which has been languishing in my UFO stack for ages.
This is one quilt I’ve been wanting to finish for so long. (The pattern is Pineapple Tidbits, a Buggy Barn quilt from their book, Certifiably Crazy.) I kept thinking I needed to be able to do some fun free motion quilting, but I finally gave that up. I hadn’t done any wavy quilting for awhile, and I think that worked pretty well. The quilt finishes to an odd size, 33″ x 38″. I could’ve added borders (the pattern doesn’t), but it will work in the space I have planned for it. I still need to make the rod pocket, which may take me another century – haha!
Back when I had the top finished, I had two pineapple blocks left over. I had planned to make a mini quilt with them. However, I opted to piece the backing, and I’m so happy I did. I almost like the backing better than the front!
I used Kona Orange for the backing fabric, and I think it is a nice background for those pineapple blocks. I used Hobbs 80/20 for the batting, and the wavy quilting is done with my AcuFeed foot using Aurifil 50 wt. thread in Bright Orange (#2145).
If you’d like to read the original post on the making of this fruity finish back in 2017(!!), you can find it here.

This one’s a beauty, and those dark greens are almost velvet-y. I love that pieced back too, especially with the Kona orange. I’d love to see a photo of it hanging, but I might have a bit of a wait, huh? 😀

Hi Wendy! These look like wonky pineapples! I love them! I have to agree that the backing is quite appealing and what a great use of those two extra blocks. What a fun finish! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

I am glad you dug in and finished this sweet mini! Is this a Buggy Barn pattern?

What’s the name of the pattern, please? The quilt is so cheerful!

Oh, what fun! I see this and think… hmmm… I wonder if I should try quilting… I’d like to put pretty pieces of fabric together and create something I’d want to look at again and again… But then, I realize it’s probably better to just see yours. I like this one a lot.

I love the fun movement the blocks create, and I think the wavy lines compliment it well. Congratulations on finishing up a UFO!

Your pineapple quilt is precious. I love it. Very clever back for it too.

I love how your pineapple wall quilt turned out! The wavy quilting looks great. I hope you feel motivated to make the rod pocket because it’s too cool to tuck away. Is it a Buggy Barn pattern?
piecefulwendy
Yes, it is a BB pattern. I updated my post this morning to note that.

That is so fun, Wendy! There are lots of pineapple blocks out there, but this might be my favorite so far. I love the Kona orange, and your wavy line quilting is perfect for the design. I bet it feels great to finish this one up!

It’s soooo cute!

I love it! Both the back and the front are great! You need to add the rod pocket to the top so that you can have it reversible! 🙂

I don’t know what other FMQ ideas you had in mind but I think what you did could not be more perfect for it. I think it sets the whole thing off so well! The colors & the design–this might be one of my absolute faves that you’ve done! A SUPER finish!

What a fun quilt. It’s a Buggy Barn? Must look at my one Buggy Barn book and see if it is the one this came from. I should make something with it as I’ve owned it for way too many years…..

So cute Wendy! Love the pineapples – kind of wonky and unique. I am with you – hard to choose between the back and front. 🙂

Who knew pineapples could be so cute? And a double sided quilt to boot!

Hurray for a finish, no matter what size! And getting a UFO done to boot is a real win. The colors seem just right for the peak of summer, too.

So cute and yummy! I love the wonky flying geese in each pineapple! The colors work out great…Bright and beautiful!

Wonky pineapples are so cute. They appear to be dancing. If you squished them down and widened them they could be pumpkins. This one is fun to look at.

A great finish and a lovely, fresh quilt. I think the wavy quilting lines are perfect for pineapples, and the back is appealing as the front. Well done Wendy

Thank you, Mariss!

This beauty was well worth the wait! I checked that post from 2017 … I never knew there was a random pineapple in each episode of Psych. There may be some binge watching in my future. : )

Thank you, Sharon! I tried to send you an email reply, but it kept bouncing back.

I absolutely adore this fruity finish, Wendy. It is perfect just the way it is and with its wavy lines, etc. And I too love that back even more for some reason. So happy you have this all done and can enjoy it now.
