Geometric Reindeer Pillow
I have my Geometric Reindeer pillow to show you today. This pattern, by Quiet Play Designs, was part of the Passport to Quilting Holiday Edition that took place mid-November. This pattern was the first of three I’ve made from the Passport to Quilting event.
The last time I showed my progress, I had added a narrow red border and a wide grey border to the reindeer block. I stabilized the pillow top using fusible fleece, then got to work quilting. I did quick stipple around the reindeer inside the narrow red border.
It’s not perfect, and there’s an annoying little tuck that somehow snuck in there, but let’s just pretend we don’t see that! I did no quilting in the narrow red border, and then stitched a simple diamond design in the wider border.
I used more of the Grunge fabric to create the envelope backing for the pillow, sewed it together, and it was done.
Here are the details for the pillow:
- Finished size: 19 inches
- Background Fabric: Moda BasicGrey Grunge in Gris
- Reindeer Fabric: Moda BasicGrey Grunge in Zesty Apple
- Red fabric is a scrap from my stash
- Thread: Aurifil 50 wt in Light Gray (#5021) for the stippling; Aurifil 50 wt variegated in Spring Prairie (#4653) for the border quilting
- Pillow Form: This one from Ikea
I hope my Geometric Reindeer inspires you to make a holiday pillow this season!
I’ll have another fun project to show you on Monday, so please come back for another visit. It’s another fun little squirrel from Sandra (mmmQuilts) and I think you will like it!
Then there will be one more holiday quilt project on Tuesday, my day to share for the Virtual Christmas Cookie Exchange Blog Hop, so I hope you don’t miss it. Quilts and cookies – yum!

Wow Wendy this looks perfect to me – it’s really gorgeous! Your paper piecing skills rock. The quilting just makes it pop. Standing O! (where’s the applause emotie?)

Adding that little red border really sets it all off perfectly and adds a festive feel to your couch:) I have a holiday pillow that I made a few years ago when I was an IB ambassador. It sits on the couch in the living room and makes me smile as I walk by.
Quilting is in my Blood
This is one of my favorite Christmas pillows. I like how you included details about the pillow. I really like the simple stipple. I hope to start practicing some FMQ in 2023.

I saw that made up by someone else on Instagram (I think). Very cute and clever pattern.

Your reindeer turned out beautifully! I love how the Grunge gives him lots of depth and texture. I am actually making a holiday pillow that will be a gift for someone – hopefully I can share it soon!

What tuck? All I see is a wonderful festive pillow! 🙂

He looks great! I loved this pattern, also, but have not sewn it yet.

Wendy, this is a terrific pillow! I haven’t had time to make any of the patterns I downloaded from Passport to Quilting but there sure are some good ones and I’m so happy to see how much good you’re making of them all because it inspires me. Once I get ‘Rainbow Neighbourhood’ out, I think I will have time to play with all the squirrels…
And I cannot wait for Monday to see what you did with the one I sent your way!
