Getting Ready
Getting ready for a quilt along is one of my favorite things. I’m joining in with Sandra of MMMQuilts for her new quilt along, Luminous Layers.
Are you quilting along, too? Maybe you haven’t seen this quilt along and need more info. Sandra has plenty of information for you at MMMQuilts. The really cool thing? You aren’t required to buy the pattern (although I know Sandra will be tickled pink if you do). Sandra offers this quilt along FREE – so grab your fabric, follow her posts, and she’ll provide you with all the information so you can sew along with us. Here are current links up for the Luminous Layers QAL:
- Introductory Post – Quilt Along Schedule and Sponsors
- Fabric Requirements
- Cutting Instructions – Sandra shares some great tips, so check this out before you cut!
I have made several of Sandra’s designs, as well as participated in quite a few of her past quilt alongs. She always makes them fun, and the designs are simple and easy to do. One of my favorites is this quilt from her Follow Your Own Path QAL. Wilbs has his own favorites, as you can see here.
Getting ready with my fabric pull for the Luminous Layers QAL – all of the fabrics are from my stash (yay!). I am making the baby size quilt, because I’ve been waiting for the right pattern to use that print, and this is it.
From the left, here is the information on the fabrics, in case you are interested.
- Background Print: “Funanimals” (Maude Asbury by Blend)
- Gold Dot: “First Light” (Kimberly Kight, Ruby Star Society)
- Teal: “Dynasty” (Moda Grunge)
- Red: “Rooi” (Moda Grunge)
- Black/White Print: Libs Elliott (out of print)
- Light Gold: “Curry” (Moda Grunge)
- Light Teal: Unknown (fat quarter)
And here they are, all cut and ready to roll!
Of course, I had help. Somebody had to hold down that stack so it didn’t slip off the cutting table!
I’m ready to sew – will I be able to wait, or will I sew ahead??? I’ll keep you posted!
What about you? Are you getting ready to sew along, too? I hope so!
Thanks, Sandra, for another fun quilt along!
Wendy

Ooooh, it’s going to be a gorgeous quilt — stars within stars and with those beautiful fabrics. Enjoy quilting along, Wendy

Wendy, the animal print is so cute! It’s perfect to grab a bay’s attention. And that red grunge will add a great pop of color. Now that the cutting is done, it’ll be hard to wait on sewing. However, you’re always good at juggling multiple projects. Have fun!

Pretty fabrics. I’m glad Wilbur is at the ready to prevent any fabric avalanches.

I can’t wait to see how this turns out, the fabrics are wonderful. You are so lucky to have Wilbs – he definitely has your back. 😉

Love your fabric selections, I know you will have fun doing the QAL. Hi there Wilbs!!

Such cheerful fabrics practically guarantee a super finish.

You’ve picked some fun fabrics for the quilt along. Knee surgery has me sidelined from sewing for the moment, but I’ll enjoy seeing everyone’s versions come together.

Your fabric pull looks really fun, Wendy! You are definitely ready to go with this one. I have my fabric now, too – need to take a photo and share!
Brenda @ Songbird Designs
Great fabrics you chose, Wendy! I’m not sure I will get to play along this year, but I will definitely follow along! It appears as if Wilbs is saying, come on, let’s get this quilt done! LOL

It’s fun seeing your cut and prepared fabric together! I know once the fabric is cut (my least favorite step) that I would find it hard to wait to get started!

I love when the mix for a baby quilt is a novelty/animal print and then modern fabrics. This will be wonderful. Have fun with this QAL. I am not joining in – I have too many things in progress. But yours will be a very fun quilt.

Oh Wendy this is going to be SO bright and cheery. Thank you for such a plug for my quilt along. Can’t wait to see this come together. Oh and I’m extending the linkup too so you can link your post up to the cutting or fabric pull.

Such fun – because it’s a baby quilt, are they flannels? I recognize a similar flannel print with those adorable sloths, so I thought I’d ask. Have a blast, Wendy!

There is no pattern holder on four legs… here in my home, so I assume I have no success with the pattern..
hopefully I do … but not yet found any fabric… have to dive deep. I will join and we will have much fun!!

Your fabric choices are wonderful and so colorful. I’ll be looking forward to seeing your progress. I went to my stash of batiks and picked out some. Similar colors to Sandy’s but not so dark. I’m a little confused about the sewing at this point so waiting for tomorrow’s post. I’ve missed seeing Wilbs so thanks for including a photo of him helping.

Love these fabrics! Can’t wait to start sewing on this….hopefully will get a post up this week!

Those bright and cheery fabrics will be great for this. I’ll be watching from the sidelines (gotta get my 2 latest done for the shop!) but enjoy! Love the Wilbs shot.

Whew! Thanks Wilbs! What would we do without you!

This will be a nice quilt along. The pattern looks great and I love your fabrics. I really enjoyed the SAHRR but, unfortunately, got very behind on the garden and ‘real’ life in general so I can’t do another one for a while. My granddaughters (who I look after 3 days a week) are going on holiday for two weeks so maybe I can finish that quilt…I’m looking forward to following yours 🙂
