Gypsy Wife Progress
I thought I’d show you my Gypsy Wife progress today, since my two friends and I met to sew together on Wednesday.
The block above is one of the first I made. My goal is to make all of my Gypsy Wife blocks from my stash of bright scraps. So far, so good! Here are the first three blocks from our first sewing day.
I made the next two blocks using paper piecing. It goes a little slower, but I like how well they came out. However, I only got two blocks made. Of course, it might be because I was chatting a bit more than sewing (imagine that!).
Here’s the Pershing block.
I had fun with this block, and I love the bright colors. I don’t have much of that black stripe left, unfortunately, but I’m going to use it until it’s gone.
And here’s the Crazy Ann block.
Once I had the floral and pink combination, I thought it was a little too subdued. I added the green for the crazy!
Even though the Gypsy Wife instructions can be a little confusing at times, this is a fun pattern to work on. My blocks are definitely a scrappy mix. So here is my Gypsy Wife progress, all together on my design wall.
I’m looking forward to getting together next month. It’s a fun day of sewing and visiting. There’s nothing better than quilting with friends!

On the Road Again
Well, actually, in the air again. I’m going someplace fun, and I’m going to do some creative play that doesn’t include quilting. (Those of you who know what I’m doing, shhhh — don’t tell.) I may not post while I’m gone, but I’ll be sure to tell you all about it when I get back.
So, what about you? What are your weekend plans? I hope it includes some quilting!

Your gypsy squares are so cute. Are they for one quilt? I was surprised they are different sizes.

They are looking great! My approach is always to look and then add in colors so everyone has “friends”. I am working on an Island batik project, napkins, and a few blog entries. Enough to keep me out of trouble…I think!
piecefulwendy
Thanks! So far I think they are friendly. Well, that should hold you a day or so ☺️😉

Hi Wendy! I started reading your blog this morning and got interrupted–just getting back. Love that b&w stripe in you GWQ! This is my weekend to work at Quilt Cove. Besides that I’m working on a couple of t-shirt quilts. Have a fun time! Will be interested in hearing about it!

Thanks, Nancy. Sounds like you have a busy weekend!

Hope you are having or had a super fun weekend. That green was the perfect crazy to add to the block; it sure made my eyes go zing! Always fun to sew with friends, even if not as much sewing gets done!

Thanks, Sandra!

Gypsy Wife, one of my favourite quilts, you have a lovely selection of blocks Wendy they look great together. Scrappy is wonderful for Gypsy the more fabrics the better it looks. I look forward to seeing the next batch.

Thanks, Kate! It’s good to know you’ve made one too. I know who to ask if I get stuck!
Preeti
You have a Gypsy Wife??? Does your husband know? :-p Of course it is confusing. A second spouse will do that 😀
OK, I am done making jokes. Love all the bright colors. Your blocks are lovely. Looking forward to your next move.

You are so funny 😂. Thanks, Preeti!

Hi Wendy, your blocks are all stunning, so vibrant and lively! I can’t wait to see a finished section, it will be amazing!
I am collecting the fabrics together for a GWQ at the moment. I love the fabric hunt part of a new quilt quest, and as mine is for my guest bedroom I have a specific colour palette that on its own is proving to be tricky!
I am currently into foundation paper piecing and wonder how much of the GWQ can be done using this method?
piecefulwendy
Hi Jayne, thanks for your comment and encouragement. There are a few blocks that are paper pieced. You can find that info at Gnome Angel’s blog. I’ll email you more info soon.

I hope you have fun doing what you enjoy doing. I got together with my quilting friends yesterday and not much sewing got done. Then I helped out with the grandboys in the evening. That was so much fun. Today I’m getting a little more sewing done.

Thanks, Lisa! Post coming soon!
