Happy Stripes
Happy Stripes is a quilt pattern designed by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love. If you are not familiar with her patterns, she designs patterns that are very quick and easy to make. I have several of her patterns in my cache, and this is one has been on my bucket list, so I pulled out a fat quarter bundle of Kaffe Fassett Dots and the top was pieced in a day. It is time to get it quilted and done.
The Kaffe Fassett bundle was a medley of bright fabric, so the quilt is quite a riot of color, don’t you think? The finished size of this quilt is 41″ x 48″ and is the perfect size for a toddler quilt, or for a young child who enjoys cuddling under a quilt while reading a book.
Some of you might remember the backing fabric, since I will be using it for my Luminous Layers quilt. I had just enough of it left to use with this quilt, and it matches so well, it could easily be reversible.
Here’s a close up of the backing fabric so you can see the fun animals in the design. It is Later Alligator by Sandy Gervais for Moda. I have had it for awhile, so I don’t know if it is still available.
For the quilting, I used the serpentine stitch once again, but this time spaced the stitching about an inch apart. It creates a very cool texture. I used Aurifil 50wt thread in neon green (#7001), because I look for excuses to use it, and it blends in well with all the bright colors.
I tried a new (to me) batting for this quilt, Kyoto Bamboo. It was very easy to work with and the quilt is very soft and cuddly. I happened to have some Kaffe dot yardage in my stash, too, just enough for the binding on the quilt. I love it when that happens!
Happy Stripes is a pattern handy to have on hand when you need a quick quilt. It is a very relaxing pattern to sew, has multiple sizes listed, and works with a variety of fabric. I’ll definitely use this pattern again.
I’ve been on a bit of a roll with finishing quilts lately, so there’s a few more more to come!

When would you like me to bring over my quilts to be finished?

Such a pretty quilt! What a great way to use the rest of that backing, it is perfect. Where did you get your bamboo batting? I’ve never tried it before. Looks like finishing up that state quilt has freed up your joyful quilt vibes. 😀

Another one that’s just kind of fun for the eyes to dance around! First it’s all about the stripes, then the triangles jump into view, then back to the colors.

Congrats on your cheerful new quilt finish, Wendy!

Happy, happy! My little grand would love to pretend to read “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” wrapped up in this happy quilt!
I’m wondering how you keep the serpentine stitching “straight” when you sew the rows? (Since it amazes me when my straght-line stitching is actually straight.)

Holey moley, it’s another finish! It is indeed fun and cheerful and yeah, your serpentine stitching is so even! Well done again! And yep, love it when I have just enough for binding! Icing!

What a fun finish – the pattern, fabric, thread, and quilting are great together!

I love your version! I made one a bit ago and it wasn’t what I had hoped. Used a layer cake and there was a bit too much light fabric, moved it on to a slice and dice charity quilt.

I think the colors are a dazzling dancing riot of color. That will be a great gift to a child.

I like that electric thread! Great job – and stay on the roll, Wendy, even if it means lots of espresso m&m’s! HA!

I love the bright colors. It makes me so happy. I recently completed this top in pastels from some batiks I had on hand. It went together so easily. It will make a nice size toddler quilt. You certainly are on a roll!!
