Happy Stripes

Happy Stripes is a quilt pattern designed by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love. If you are not familiar with her patterns, she designs patterns that are very quick and easy to make. I have several of her patterns in my cache, and this is one has been on my bucket list, so I pulled out a fat quarter bundle of Kaffe Fassett Dots and the top was pieced in a day. It is time to get it quilted and done.

The Kaffe Fassett bundle was a medley of bright fabric, so the quilt is quite a riot of color, don’t you think? The finished size of this quilt is 41″ x 48″ and is the perfect size for a toddler quilt, or for a young child who enjoys cuddling under a quilt while reading a book.

Some of you might remember the backing fabric, since I will be using it for my Luminous Layers quilt. I had just enough of it left to use with this quilt, and it matches so well, it could easily be reversible.

Here’s a close up of the backing fabric so you can see the fun animals in the design. It is Later Alligator by Sandy Gervais for Moda. I have had it for awhile, so I don’t know if it is still available.

For the quilting, I used the serpentine stitch once again, but this time spaced the stitching about an inch apart. It creates a very cool texture. I used Aurifil 50wt thread in neon green (#7001), because I look for excuses to use it, and it blends in well with all the bright colors.

I tried a new (to me) batting for this quilt, Kyoto Bamboo. It was very easy to work with and the quilt is very soft and cuddly. I happened to have some Kaffe dot yardage in my stash, too, just enough for the binding on the quilt. I love it when that happens!

Happy Stripes is a pattern handy to have on hand when you need a quick quilt. It is a very relaxing pattern to sew, has multiple sizes listed, and works with a variety of fabric. I’ll definitely use this pattern again.

I’ve been on a bit of a roll with finishing quilts lately, so there’s a few more more to come!
