Pieceful Life

Home Again

Hi all, we’ve actually been home for the past week, but a week ago Thursday, my father-in-law died unexpectedly. The week was spent gathering family and preparing for his funeral and celebrating his life. We all miss him very much, and still cannot believe he’s gone.

On happier news, here’s a pic of the place we stayed for our anniversary, a lovely cabin along the North Shore in Minnesota.

We enjoyed a few days here in this cozy place. It had a wrap around porch with a beautiful view of Lake Superior. We enjoyed watching the ships as they came into or out of Duluth. We also had visits from a pileated woodpecker who seemed to enjoy berries from one of the trees near the cabin.

We decided to do a little hiking.

This was our first trail stop. It was just a little over a mile hike, but it was mostly vertical and covered with tree roots and rock. We opted to find another trail rather than this one. The next one was much more to our liking.

This one took us upward as well, but the path was much easier. It took us to the High Falls of the Superior Hiking Trail.

Prior to going up to the cabin, we met up with friends and stopped at a quilt shop. I’ll tell you more about that in a later post, but here’s a peek at my fabric acquisition.

Fun, huh? You can see that one fabric is already up on my design wall, and a quilt top is underway. Not sure when it will be done, but I’m enjoying looking at it while I’m working on other projects. So I’ll tell you more details about this fabrics soon!

I also got a few more quilts and pictures up on my quilt room wall. Those two pieces of artwork sitting on my sewing table are up on the wall now, too. Things are taking shape in my little quilt room.

Happy Monday, all!

Wendy

So sorry for you and your familiy to have this big lost… but this is something that belongs to our way… coming… and going. And if we think about a ship that is going… and we say good by… and it went out of our view and is so little at the horizon…. We are sad, but at the other side… a ship comes nearer and all there are happy that the ship comes.
I heard that and it gave ma little comfort at sad days.

The cabin looks piecefull and woodpacker are cool.
I would love the first way, but would be slowly. But any way ends up with nice views.

The fabic so so cool. I have some from this designer, they are hard to hunt in Germany.
Forgot the name, but she is cool. This is fabric men love.
Glad you feel fine for posting, thanks for sharing and a good pieceful week with much time for rest and sew.

The cabin and hiking trails look like a paradise. I’m glad you had that time before your time of grief, shock, and preparations. I’m sorry for your unexpected loss.

I’m very sorry to read about your father-in-law and my sympathies to your husband and all of you.
That cabin looks like the perfect place to stay, and the first hike reminds me of a trail we used to go on at church camp in eastern Oklahoma – it was very steep, but we were young. 😉 Oh that fabric! Do I spy some Tim Holtz pieces?

So sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one. Always a hard road to walk.
Those fabrics are over-the-top! Wood cut prints over hand dyes? They’ve certainly inspired you to begin something new – am looking forward to seeing what you create.

Still sending prayers and hoping everyone is adjusting. It’s such a process, but it can really bring families together–and closer to God.
The cabin looks just perfect. I was immediately struck with the first pic of fabric (the green)–it has the exact colors you took in on your hikes. No wonder you chose it!

Condolences to you and your family, Wendy. You will always have him in your hearts! I like the way that Eva put it…the ship on the horizon.
Those fabrics are fantastic! I can’t wait to see what you make with them!
The cabin looks like a wonderful place to refresh! I am glad you were able to spend time there! 🙂

What a lovely little spot for your anniversary! I would be more comfortable with the second path, too! I am using walking sticks (PT recommended) to help get my gait a little more normal….but think they would be good for a trail like that. Love the fabric choices…Marcia Derse? Tim Holtz? Guicy Guice? All delicious….can’t wait to see what you create.

Love the cabin, visits from the pileated woodpecker and the smooth walks!!! Love the fabrics, too–I have some of those, also!

I am sorry to read of your father-in-law’s passing.
That cabin you stayed in certainly looks very cosy and the hiking trails equally welcoming.
As for those fabrics…. what can I say, except to admit that I am a weeny bit jealous. Looks like they are hand-made fabrics — looking forward to reading more about them.

Your pictures of your stay have me adding MN to my must visit the state list. There is a town named Duquette in Minnesota too.
Please post what you create with those interesting fabrics.
I hope pain of your loss of father in-law is easier now. Blessings to the family.

My sympathies for the loss of your father-in-law. It definitely hits hard when a parent is lost. Your anniversary trip sounds like it was very nice. That little cabin is so nice and seems to have many windows to watch the wildlife. Your photos are always so beautiful.

I’m so sorry to hear about your FIL, Wendy – it’s so hard to lose our parents. Your anniversary trip looks very enjoyable! I love the cabin and the views – we would probably pick the second trail, too. 🙂 Have fun with that new fabric!

Hi there – Hoping you and your husband are dealing well with the loss of his father. What a time of grief for you and your family. I am so sorry for all of you.

The cabin looks delightful! It is storybook cute.

I am also curious about the fabric. Looks like Tim Holtz and/or Marcia Derse but I could easily be wrong on that! Super cool choices though.

Hi Wendy! I am so sorry to hear about your FIL. It’s never easy but unexpectedly seems ever harder. I hold all of you in my prayers. It’s unfortunate that he died right after your lovely excursion away. That cabin looks so wonderful – relaxing and peaceful. Plus, your side trip before the cabin is definitely pieceful. {{Hugs}} a bunch for all of you. ~smile~ Roseanne

My condolences on the death of your FIL. A sudden death is always so hard to take in.
On other notes…You always find the most interesting fabrics. I go to a shop and get overwhelmed with the choice and am not in control then of what I choose. Anyway, lovely to see where you stayed and the beautiful trails. Our natural world is splendid and I can hope it stays that way. What a great getaway, Wendy. I guess Wilbs was not with you, LOL
