Hourglass
Hourglass is the current Project Quiltng Challenge 15.4. To meet the challenge, we were to use the hourglass shape in our project, but did not have to use the exact hourglass block.
I kept my project simple this time around. I have several projects all going on this week, so I didn’t want to do anything that took too much time. I also realized I wanted a new runner for our dresser in our bedroom, so I decided to make one for this challenge.
For this little runner, I used Grunge fabrics in Curry (yellow), Faded Denim (blue) and Yam (rust), along with some scraps of Kona Snow. I used my Tri Recs rulers to cut the hourglass shapes. It went together quickly. I did some quick quilting following the design with Aurifil 50 wt thread in Lemon Ice (#3910), then added a binding in Faded Denim. The finished runner measures 10.5 inches by 26 inches.
For the backing, I found this pretty print in my stash. It complements the other fabrics well.
This runner will replace the current runner on my dresser (last year’s Project Quilting challenge (14.4 – Sew Not a Square), another favorite PQ challenge I completed.
Thanks, Kim and Trish, for Hourglass – another fun challenge. Each one just gets better!

Wendy, I had to take a look at last year’s runner, and it’s definitely a favorite! I like the simplicity of your new runner. The colors and clean lines seem right on trend. I bet it was fun to stitch!

That turned out great! Kind of reminds me of argyle socks. I love the backing fabric. Very pretty.

A lovely fresh piece.

You always have the best variety of Grunge! You make me want to go shopping, lol! I love how your hourglass project turned out – that’s a neat design idea. I’ve made blocks with the Tri Recs ruler, but never thought to use just the triangle. Fun finish, Wendy!

Besides all your running projects time for this challenge. Wow! You are doing so good!
Kim and Trish does such a super challenge at the first month, that I will make a marker in my calender. Because something did not work .. dont get the news. But last year participated. This year no information and no time … but love the work you do!!

This is so pretty! The Grunge, the backing, the quilting – nice finish. One of my plans when we win the lottery – to buy a bolt of every Grunge color. For my huge sewing room. 😉

I love you hourglass and your quilting compliments it perfectly. The back is a pretty one too, will you ever turn it over for a change? I often use great fabrics thinking I will, but only do it with a few of them!

Just lovely, Wendy. Your use of specialty rulers really impresses me…I don’t own one. How the Wibs doing? Was he impressed? 😀

Very cute runner, love how the quilting makes it look argyle (and I’m a sucker for that or any plaid-type ting).
