I Like Thursday
I like Thursday, it is a favorite day of the week here. Why? For the two of us, the end of the day Thursday marks the beginning of the weekend, even though BigJ still has one day of work left for the week. I like Thursday, too, because I can join in with LeeAnna and the rest of my friends over at Not Afraid of Color for the weekly I like Thursday party.
However, I’ve been a little absent lately from Thursday posts – or any posts for that matter. I’m not really sure what is going on with that, but I’m working my way back. I haven’t even been sewing as much as usual, which is also a bit perplexing. That’s starting to come back, too. I’ll show you what’s currently on my little design wall later in this post.
Morning Person or Night Owl?
LeeAnna is curious and asks this question this week. I have always been a night owl, and I’m happy that way. I love to read late into the night, although “late into the night” is right around midnight now. I usually can’t keep my eyes open any later than that. The one good thing about morning? A nice, warm, inviting cup of coffee! I really don’t want to do much until I’m done sipping a cup of dark roast. Then I’m ready to start the day.
While Wilbs is definitely busy at night, he tries his best to make me a morning person, gently tapping me on the shoulder around 4 am because he really thinks I should feed him, or at least pet him for a few minutes. By the time I get up around 7:30, he’s waiting for our bed to be made so he can sleep.
Crazy Weather!
Minnesota is having a hard time deciding what the weather should be. Here’s a photo of our deck on April 1st – the temp was in the 30s..
Just a few days later, on April 4th, the temps climbed a little higher, and our deck looked like this. This photo was taken around 6:30 pm.
If you look closely at the base of those trees in the background, you will see they are surrounded by water. We have a little creek in our backyard, and after winters of heavy snow, the creek overflows, and for just a little while, I have muddy “lakefront” property. Our house is never in danger of water damage, so we just enjoy it. When this photo was taken, temps were high 40s, I believe.
Fast forward to yesterday —
Just eight days later, it is 88 degrees and we are enjoying dinner on our deck. That temp is very unusual for us, and a little too early – but I’m not really complaining. We have had enough of winter. The forecast for Sunday? 40 degrees and – snow.
Improv Play
Feeling relatively unmotivated to work on anything in my quilt room, I pulled out some fabric and had a little fun. These four blocks are now sewn into a top, and I’m currently pondering how to quilt it. Doing some hand quilting is currently winning, but we’ll see.
The Kaffe Fassett print was interesting to work with paired with the Kona solids. The print has such a soft hand; I’m a little concerned that it won’t lay flat for the quilting. There is no particular purpose for this quilt, other than to just play a bit.
The Weekly Wilbs
Our son recently celebrated his 30th birthday. I wrapped up his gift and left it on the counter. Wilbs decided a little quality control was needed.
I like Thursday, and sharing these random thoughts with you. Thanks for stopping by!

I like your fun piece, nicely done. I am contemplating some hand quilting myself. We shall see if that actually happens. How neat that you sometimes have “lakefront” property. Hope your seasons get sorted out soon. My Jack and Wilbs would get along great – tapping in the early morning hours happens here too. Love how he fits in the bag. 😀

Oh how nice of Wilbs to insure the quality of gift wrapping.

Good morning, Wendy! Oh, those photos of Wilbs are just what I need this morning! Basking in the sunshine, quality control on birthday presents, and patiently waiting to be fed are all worthy duties for him. The crazy weather is here, too! But it sure is wonderful to have a whole week of sunshine and 80s with low humidity in April. Happy Thursday to you! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

snow and then sun and warmth and back to snow – sounds like Wisconsin was when I lived in the state next to you! I would love a little creek glad the house is in no danger of excess water though

We enjoyed eating on our deck yesterday also, DH grilled a steak for dinner. Why oh why can’t this weather last until late fall:0 Your little improv piece looks so inviting with it’s bright coloring.

Nice to have a Thursday ‘visit’ from you. I have wondered how you manage to write multiple posts each week (I can just about manage one per week) so am not surprised that you have taken a bit of a break. Enjoy the warmer weather

Oh! You must have gone shopping at the cat store! I like your improv piece. I have that same Kaffe fabric in several different colors. Don’t talk to me about the weather. I’m so fed up with snow.

First of all – Wilbs totally cracked me up!! Cats are so funny when they very carefully find a way to fit into bags and boxes, even when they really don’t fit. We’ve had the same thing here in eastern SD – winter last week and summer this week. We noticed leaves popping out on the maple tree outside our bedroom just yesterday, and neither of us had even noticed buds appearing. And – yup – I’m a night owl too!

We’re having the same weather whiplash around here – it was 88 here on Tuesday! Cold and wet tomorrow, though. A 4 am wake up call from Wilbur does not sound welcome – especially if you’re a night owl. That’s a pretty piece with the Kaffe print and solids! Looks like Wilbur is a good snoop-ervisor!

80’s???!!!! I am downright jealous of Wilbs…soaking up all that sunshine! I’ve not been blogging or sewing either. In my case, I have a lot of family time happening, some of it a bit stressful, some of it very good, and all of it very precious. 🙂

I have always been a morning person, but my husband is a night owl. Right now I’m finding that I’m staying up later because he has a big project and deadline coming up and my mornings are a lot more sluggish than I’m used to. The hand of different fabrics can be pretty drastically different. Have fun quilting the improv mini!

The weather has been wild this spring. I think we’ve finally hit our consistent higher temps, it’s been in the 80’s here the last few days. I’m sure it will cool off again soon, but hopefully not back down to freezing. Your playing in the sewing room quilt is really bold and bright. Sometimes you need a mini break even from things you enjoy. Hope you find some fun things to work on this week.

So good to see a Thursday post and pics of Wilbs. I’ve always been a morning person but married to a night owl. The weather in No Nevada is doing the same dance. I’m blaming that rodent Phil. It seems to go from hot to cold with no in between time to adjust. Sometimes I spray starch the lighter fabric so it will lie flat with the other fabric. Hope to see the final results with this piece.

omcats wilbur is adorable. Now, waking me at 4 for a snuggle, well…. Milo wakes us because he sleeps between us near the foot of the bed and when he turns over, he stands, turns, then FLOPS down nearly on top of one of us!
our weather is the same, from near 90 to snow. I wouldn’t mind as much if our house didn’t heat up like an oven holding heat for 12 hours making it hard to sleep.
then there’s the dog turning over…
welcome back

Playing is always good!
The Morning Latte
Ha ha ha Wilbs. Such a cat! When I was younger I preferred to be a night owl but the truth of it is, I’m a morning person through and through, no matter how many times I try to stay up late! The older I get, the less I try for sure! LOL. Enjoy the sunny days and snuggle up on the cold ones. What else can we do? Crazy weather!

It’s great that the weather is warming up for you. Our is cooling down here (which I’m very pleased about). Enjoy your weekend.

Wow – from snow to summer! I like your block. Wilbur in a bag! lol
Kathleen McCormick
Oh, yes snow to spring to summer in no time at all! I am neither a morning or night person…I just function whatever…. My son will be 30 this year, too! Love that Wilbs did some quality control on the present!

Wendy I think you have the lack of motivation figured out: the crazy weather we are all experiencing! I too, am a night owl. I get more done at night than during the day; probably because I’m on the go so much :). Wilbs is so funny checking out the birthday present. He does entertain us all! Love the new improv piece. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do to finish it!

I too love that fun piece featuring Kaffe fabrics. THey really are interesting designs up close. We had the same crazy swing about in temperatures, just nuts. Wilbs photographs so beautifully, doesn’t he!
