I Like Thursday #44

This I Like Thursday #44 post should’ve been written last week. I was planning to do a post last week, but I don’t think I left the house much last week, other than maybe a run to the grocery store (and what’s to like about that). So I had nothing to post – seriously. I had been sewing, but on a project I can’t show (but you’ll get to see the fabric in this post). I was so busy sewing, I didn’t even think of photos for my Thursday post. Not even Wilbur (but he’s here today).

Anyway, I’m back and joining in with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color and the rest of the lovely bloggers who join in each Thursday. LeeAnna has them all listed over on her blog each Thursday, so feel free to pop over and read a few more. We love encouraging comments!

I Like Thursday #44 - My lovely hydrangea tree, looking full and beautiful - piecefulthoughts.com

My hydrangea tree is looking full and beautiful right now. When we first planted it, we pruned it a bit lopsidedly. I was worried I’d always have a wonky looking tree, but it has filled in pretty well. The flowers are huge.

I Like Thursday #44 - Who can resist Libs Elliott fabric and Aurifil thread? - piecefulthoughts.com

This bright little duo has been keeping me completely occupied in my quilt room. It’s hard to resist Libs Elliott fabric – in orange! – and Aurifil thread. I have been sewing in tandem with another quilting friend as we make the same project with different fabric. More about that and the project reveal in a future post!

When I needed a break from that project, I was reading this book:

I Like Thursday #44 - Just finished reading this; I learned so much! - piecefulthoughts.com

I learned so much from this book. It is not an easy book to read due to the subject of radium and how it affected the women who worked with it. It is a piece of history that I knew nothing about until now.

The Weekly Wilbs

The Weekly Wilbs, sunning in the window - piecefulthoughts.com

I interrupted his sunbath/nap, so he was rather sleepy. No other cat we’ve had has been allowed to sleep in sun by the sink. Spoiled, much?

That’s it for my I Like Thursday #44 – I’m off to have a little taste of this Crustless Blueberry Pie, a new recipe I thought I’d try. You can find the recipe here

Happy Thursday, all!

I have read a lot of narrative history lately, like Radium Girls, and am fascinated at these stories. You might want to try anything by David McCullough, Steve Sheinkin, or Erik Larson.

the blueberry dessert looks delicious – I am missing desserts right now as hubby is really trying to get healthier and is on a roll loosing weight

Wow that thread and fabric together are just gorgeous. I think I have that book in my audible library, but I haven’t read it yet. I like those kinds of books with bits of little-known history.

Love all the photos…flowers look great; fabric and thread are cheerful (can’t wait to see the project); the book was very good and so sad. Wilbur looks a little unhappy about the photo but such a pretty color. He would look good on the quilt we can’t wait to see. And the blueberry pie says “Yum!” Have a great week.

not spoiled wilbur, indulged… that’s a whole nother thing. Hydrangea is gorgeous and the orange thread project looks ful

I think I actually caught my breath when the picture of the fabric and thread came along! Yummy! Wilbur finds all the best spots to be in the middle of things. I’ve been wanting to read that book – will have to go right now and put it on my library list. I’ve been reading Just Mercy – hard to recommend because it’s about people on death row, but well-written and interesting even so. The crustless blueberry pie looks delicious! Thanks for sharing the recipe. Glad you’re back today, Wendy!

Enjoyed your likes!!! Love the hydrangea! So pretty! And you can’t get much more perfect than that Aurifil with that fabric!!! Thanks for the book recommendation! How did the crustless pie turn out?
    Happy Quilting! 🙂

My sister grows hydrangea but only certain varieties, I’m not a good pie crust maker, so the crustless blueberry pie looks fabulous!

I am jealous of your hydrangea bush. The orange fabric is wow! I have that book in my queue to read, but sometimes I just go rogue and go looking at other venues for books to read…that is a whole different rabbit hole. Nice to see handsome Wilbur. I can relate to not having anything to really share some weeks.

Orange is one of my favorite colors! I love the variegated you found for the orange fabric and I look forward to see how you used it. I am also adding that book to my reading list. It looks to be right up my alley. Have you seen that there is a movie roughly about Marie Curie called Radioactive?

  • Needle and Foot

I have the same hydrangeas! But mine show more woody stuff at the bottom and the greenery and blooms are at the top – does that make sense? I like the way yours looks much better! Maybe we need to be pruning it differently in the fall?
Love the look of that pie and the orange project. 🙂

Hi Wendy! Your hydrangeas are beautiful – nice and full and happy. I’m dying to know how the blueberry crustless pie was? Is the recipe a keeper? Thanks for the Wilbur fix – I’ve been trying to get over here to read your post. Oh, that orange! The thread is just a fabulous choice for that fabric. Wow – could it be a better choice?! ~smile~ Roseanne
