I Like Thursday 51
Let’s start I Like Thursday 51 with a little bit of fall. I like pumpkins in the fall, and I finally got some for my front door area. I snapped this photo (above) of a flatbed full of pumpkins. I like all the colors and shapes and sizes. Now I just need a mum plant and a few other items, and my front entry will be ready for fall.
Of course, I may be a little late – the weather is threatening a chance of snow later this weekend. Thankfully, at this time of year, it will likely be just a little bit that doesn’t last long. On the other hand, this is 2020 . . .
I like that my challenge quilt is done, except for the binding. Here’s a sneak peek – a little bit of the quilt – with matchy matchy threads!
It took me a long time to settle on something for this challenge with the theme “The Sea”. You’d think that would be easy, right? Once the idea got settled in my head, I was off and running. I do like how it turned out.
I like that I am finally getting the idea of a challenge quilt also being a learning quilt. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but should push me to try some new things – and this one did.
I apparently spent all my quilting mojo on the challenge quilt, because it has left me this week. So I spent some time reading, and this book was an easy, enjoyable read. I love the photo on the cover. It makes me want to bake cute little pies like that. The story has all my favorite things – birds, quilts, cats, and, of course, pie.
It’s fall, and that means apple crisp at our house. It isn’t fall without it. Add a little whipped cream or ice cream and, oh so good! My mom and I always called this Nita’s Apple Crisp because the recipe came from her (my sister in law). It’s a basic apple crisp recipe, but I’m particularly fond of the crunchy oatmeal, brown sugar crust.
The Weekly Wilbs
Of course there has to be a photo of Wilbs to finish out the post. On sunny days, he likes to sneak up by the kitchen sink for a nap in the sun. This past week, he moved a bit . . .
He had gotten up, stretched, and then moved . . . to the sink – haha! He wasn’t quite sure why I thought a photo was so fun. I was hoping he’d just curl up in there so I could get a fun photo, but he had to see what I was doing. It’s the first time he’s done that, surprisingly — at least when I’ve been around to see it!
I’m adding I Like Thursday 51 in with my other creative friends who gather over at Not Afraid of Color as we list our likes for the week. If you’ve enjoyed my post, I hope you pop over there and read a few more. Better yet – let LeeAnna know you’d like to join in!
What about you? What’s your favorite fall thing? I’d like to know!
Friday’s almost here, my friends! Woohoo!

Looking forward to seeing your challenge quilt, perhaps it’s a stormy sea a brewing from the colors? I certainly like your attitude about challenges! I think they stretch you, allowing you to explore new techniques and ideas. My favorite thing about fall are the changing leaves AND apple pie.

it sounds like you might need to bring your pumpkins inside for a day or two – I will need to bring my two hanging plants in the house for the next two days I think as we will be possible 40 or below for two nights – I think my pumpkin will come inside as well

Your challenge quilt looks intriguing. And by the way you can keep the snow to yourself…):

Good morning, Wendy!! Aww, Wilbs looks so curious about why you’re taking ANOTHER photo of him. I wouldn’t think the sink would be all that comfortable . . . it’s rather hard and no sun. Goofy cat! Oooh, your quilting challenge piece looks darn nifty with those pretty threads. I can’t wait to see the reveal. Ahh, reading! I love it and it often comes well before sewing in our home. Happy Thursday to you, my friend. ~smile~ Roseanne

Now I’m curious to see your challenge quilt. I miss pumpkins at the front door. In 18 years in this house, we’ve never had a single trick or treater, and so we don’t put out the pumpkin any more. It used to be a fun family event carving pumpkins.

That apple crisp looks delicious! I hope you don’t get snow yet, but I do have very fond memories of trick-or-treating in the Halloween blizzard of ’91 🙂

Hi Wendy! I do like the changing leaves, the crispness of the air, and the special glow of the fall sun. I’m not too fond of the colder weather, but some cooler temps are nice. And of course, the smell of the house when there’s something yummy baking in the oven! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing your challenge quilt!

wilbur you are SO Handsome! Wendy, those grays are really pretty and all my challenge quilts are learning quilts too. They are original so each time you forge new path or new technique it’s all about experimentation. Learning quilts can turn out to be favorite quilts too. The book looks good, please share that crisp recipe with me? LeeAnna

That is a great perspective, to make a challenge quilt a learning quilt. After all, it should CHALLENGE, and learning is a definite bonus! We used to have a kitty that liked to lay in the bathroom sink!
Thanks for the book recommendation and I’m glad the apple crisp is a virtual temptation! I love apple crisp!

Decorating for fall, yummy apple crisp, and funny Wilbur – love! That book looks intriguing – I’ll have to put it on my list. I’m looking forward to seeing more about your challenge quilt project. It’s so intriguing!

I like the sneak peek of your challenge quilt!!

That is a lot of green pumpkins in the wagon! Oh that Wilbur, what a character! I sure enjoy your pix of him:) Your challenge quilt is intriguing.

Ooh – I like the shades of grey. It will be cool to see the whole thing! Yum for apple crisp. Kitty in a sink – LOL.

That apple crisp looks delicious! The mix of the greener and orange pumpkins is so interesting. Silly Wilbur!

Snow sounds marvelous! (But I guess I need another couple weeks to get some outdoor things done yet!). Yay, another book to listen to! Will I end up making a pie??

I can’t wait to see the reveal for your challenge quilt. The curved piecing must have been a challenging learning curve! 🥴 your apple crisp looks so tempting and I think I need to order that book. I just realized why Wilbs has me so fascinated. 4 out of 5 of my cats were marmalade’s and they all were addicted to strange perches. One of them always hung out on top of open doors and might give you a swat as you walked through the dooor.

Hmm. I can almost smell the Apple Crisp here in Nevada. Yumm! I’m looking forward to your challenge quilt. You are right about challenging yourself with each project. I just finished telling my husband the perfect can be overrated and sometimes (like with my from porch) finished is better than perfect especially when I can’t see the imperfections he sees. Wilbur is quite the character. Even if he is an indoor cat he is still quite the interesting guy.

Loving the grays. Oh that apple crisp does look good. And of course the crust is the best part to me. I like a little filling with my crust. Crisp, pie, cobbler – you name it – I’m a crust girl from way back. Wilbur is so handsome!

Great post and love your Sea quilt! Your apple crisp looks so yummy! Have a wonderful week Wendy!

Pumpkins are one of my favourite things, certainly of anything orange. Meanwhile, your mysterious quilt looks so interesting Wendy. The sea you say…yes looks like waves. Am I warm? I too love apple crisp and I always add more rolled oats than the recipe says. I got excited thinking the book was a recipe book cause, yes, that pie looks delicious and neat. Great post!
Colette
Your challenge quilt looks awesome. I got some mums the other day. I also have some pie pumpkins, but they won’t be outside. Apple crisp sounds awesome. LOL Wilbs and the sink.

Can’t wait to see your challenge! I bet its fabulous. I always love the Wilbur shots, but now I am hungry looking at your apple crisp! And, since I am reading this late, I know you got your sew jo back – good thing!
