I like Thursday

I’m just dropping in to share an I Like Thursday post with you and all the others who join in with LeeAnna over at Not Afraid of Color. We enjoy sharing a few things that catch our eye during the week that we think you might like to know about! Thanks, LeeAnna, for continuing to keep this weekly fun going! You can find the list of all of us (and join in by letting LeeAnna know you’d like to join us) over at Not Afraid of Color

As you can see from the above photo, I’m still wishing I was on that pontoon. The weather was so nice that day; it has turned chilly here, there’s even talk of snow up north. All the more reason for us to pull out those snuggly quilts, yes?

This post would be already written, but I got slightly distracted by window shopping over at Stitch Supply Co. (no affiliate). This particular fabric caught my eye. I’m sure you can guess why. While I was there, I was also eyeing this FQ bundle. Kinda pretty, huh? But I exercised restraint, and left them both there.

Meanwhile, back in the quilt room, I have been working on my challenge quilt for The Endeavourers, which is due November 1st. The top is done and I’m pondering quilting ideas while I happy dance! I don’t even have a sneak peek to show you – you’ll just have to wait. The theme was a tricky one – and it is my theme – so I felt a little pressure! I’ve done some work on a few other projects, too, and you can read about that in my To Do Tuesday post here

Today LeeAnna asked us to chat a bit about our favorite snacks. When I’m quilting, I rarely snack; I just don’t think about it, which is also why I like to have hand sewing to work on in the evenings. If I’m watching a show, then I want to snack, so keeping my fingers busy with sewing keeps me from snacking too much.

However, when I do snack, if I’m in the mood for a sweet snack, it will always be chocolate. I have a weakness for M&Ms, so I rarely keep them in the house. At this time of year, I also have a bit of a weakness for candy corn, and I definitely don’t buy it because I can’t leave it alone. When I’m in the mood for salty snacks, it’s often White Cheddar Cheez-Its, or Dot’s Homestyle Pretzels, particularly the honey mustard flavor. Sometimes I just like popcorn. I don’t happen to have any of those on hand, so I don’t have any pictures to show you. I’m sure most of you know what I’m talking about, or Mr. Google will be happy to assist.

The Weekly Wilbs

The Weekly Wilbs, washing up - piecefulthoughts.com

Did somebody say snack?? Just let me get washed up and ready . . .

Wilbs’ favorite snack is his dry food kibble. Well, he’d really prefer to clean our dishes once we are done eating, but we prefer not. So dry kibble it is. I do have some kitty treats that excite him, too. It sounds pretty dull, but it seems to keep him happy.

What about you – do you have. a favorite snack I should try? I’d love to hear about it! Thanks for stopping by and reading my I Like Thursday post!

Hi Wendy! Aww, Wilbs is just so sweet. And nice and warm when he wants to cuddle! I am looking forward to seeing that project on November 1st! You’ve got oodles of time to get it quilted, so at least that one pressure is off. I grew up having a Pepsi after dinner with my dad (in a glass bottle). That habit has stuck with me but now I have a diet Pepsi in a can. Not a very healthy snack but it does make me think of him. Happy Thursday to you! Stay warm – it’s way too early for snow. We just had six tornadoes in Wisconsin yesterday – one quite close to our littles. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

That fabric bundle is really nice. These days I’m working on just looking and not buying fabric with moderate success. As far as snacking, at work I keep salt and pepper pistachios from Trader Joe’s. They’re satisfying and don’t set me back too many calories.

I read that Anchorage recently had snow, so go ahead with those snuggly quilts. Your taste is similar to mine in sweet snacks – I have a weakness for plain M&Ms and cannot keep them around the house. If desperate I will eat peanut M&Ms. We have a popcorn popper, so that is the salty snack. And it’s good with M&Ms. 😉 That FQ bundle is beautiful, and I’m a sucker for kitty fabric, just bought some in fact.

if candy is in the house I will eat it so I rarely have anything in the house but Dove Dark Chocolate – the little bites – I figure the experts say dark chocolate is good for you so 2-3 squares is like medicine – right? LOL

  • The Joyful Quilter

If/when I snack, I tend to be a cookie monster. At the moment, I’m on a Chessman cookie kick and recently discovered Pumpkin Biscotti from Trader Joe’s. They break my one-cookie snack rule… YUM!

I hadn’t heard that *s* word for up north, not already please! Made your own challenge a hard one eh, looking forward to seeing it.

I finished the biggest part of my challenge piece at the beginning of our trip. Still have to finish it into a quilt when we get home. I hope I can find my sewing machine, which is still with the rest of my sewing room piled in our garage. Grrrrrrr. As for candy corn, it’s the food of the gods if you ask me. (You did ask, right?) I allow myself one bag each Halloween season. This year, it was BOGO at the grocery store, and so I allowed myself two bags. I figured it was the Universe telling me to splurge a little.

I wanna be on that sail boat! (When hubs and I were dating, he bought a Hobie-Cat so we’ve always just love the idea of sailing but, alas, we live in KS! LOL). The kitty fabric is very cute but the FQ bundle! I’m in love! Such pretty colors! I don’t snack while sewing either–don’t really like food in the sewing room but sometimes I’ll bring up a cut up apple with a fork so I don’t even touch it. My go-to snack is always nuts–all kinds. Peanuts, mixed, almonds, all of em. And all the time which is way way too many calories, I know. I also love roasted pepitas. Nom. SNOW? Bring it! Or rather, at least cool down more. It has been so late to cool down here. I’ll take the snow after Thanksgiving though for sure!! Maybe a few dustings before.

I’ve never been to Stitch Supply Co so now I’m in trouble, lol! That is a pretty bundle! Looking forward to seeing your challenge quilt – they are always interesting and fun. I love M&Ms, too, so definitely don’t keep any around. Quilting and sewing are definitely a good way to keep our hands out of the snack cupboard, lol!

Snow in October! Really not that unusual; I think they had snow in Colorado or Montana in the middle of September this year. Dark chocolate covered almonds from Trader Joe’s is my Achille’s heel. I’m out right now and studiously trying to avoid a buying spree for those and some other items (non-fattening). Chocolate chip cookies (Pepperidge Farms has one style I really like) but I’m avoiding those. Lots of ice cream in the summer. Also Werther’s caramel hard candies. Need to stop those before the cavities set in. As for Wilbs, well how would he do with some catnip toys?

You made my smile, glad to read nobody says fruit is better! I always have a special sort of ginger gummy bears in my sewing furniture. And now the season for Mon Cherie starts here again in Germany. And I can not resist small pralines from Lindt. Our cat loves to get from time to time half teaspoon butter… to be honest, it was good not to buy the cats fabric I think, it has a direction. I learned that it could be better to play with fabric if it has no direction.

  • quiltinggail

I resisted going to see the fabric that you were talking about … fabric is just too much of a temptation! As are a LOT of treats! but, unlike Wilbs, I think it’s easy to resist dry kibble! 🙂

  • Sally

Fun fabric! I agree M&Ms wouldn’t last long here, either! the guinea pig I’m fostering right now is like Wilbur – he loves his dry kibble!

  • Sandi Scarlett

I love chocolate so I don’t usually keep it in the house. When I do buy a bag, I eat it right up. Wilbur is so cute. I’m a cat lover as I have 3 of them. All rescues.

  • LA Paylor

I’ve been wanting m&m’s lately. I want to see a big bowl of them out for halloween. I think you’re missing something by not letting Wilbs prewash the dishes… they come out /SO much cleaner, heh heh
I don’t think of eating when quilting either. I forget to drink water too unfortunately. Glad you’re working through the latest quilt…LeeAnna

  • Jocelyn Thurston

I also like to snack while watching tv in the evenings and another great reason to have stitching to keep the hands occupied. And with cross stitch, must keep them clean too. I have a weakness for marshmallow so peeps are good but I can’t keep it in the house…no control at all which is sad for an old grown woman to admit. LOL Love that Wilbs and his very cute poses.

  • Mari

Try Pop Corners. White cheddar is my favorite, but they are all good. And go back and get that fabric before someone else does! 🙂

  • Kathleen McCormick

I am shocked at how quickly November is coming, but there it is. I think my SIL posted snow in St Paul this weekend? Yikes. It was almost 70 here (in Boston) the last two days. I’d be happy with your choice of snacks and enjoyed the eye candy you shared at Stitch House.

  • Kate

I’ve had my recliner quilt in use the last 2 mornings, it’s gotten chilly here too. I’m a big fan of the coffee M&M’s. Grad Girl and I can demolish a bag in a single sitting if we don’t watch ourselves!
