I Like Thursdays #18
It’s time for I Like Thursdays #18, where I join in with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color and the others who are celebrating their likes today. I hope you’ll read through my post, then hop over and visit LeeAnna and the others. It’s interesting to read what each of them have enjoyed during the week, and you never know what kind of tips or ideas you might pick up.
While clearing my Christmas decor yesterday (a good thing to do while one is missing her daughter) I had to snap a photo of this little St. Lucia doll that belonged to my mom.
My mom always enjoyed Christmas and was very loyal to her Swedish roots. It was always easy to buy gifts for her, because she loved Swedish anything. Each year for many years, she organized a St. Lucia breakfast for the women of her church which grew to include women from the surrounding area. It was always a favorite event of hers. So this little doll is one of my favorites of all her Swedish decorations, and a little bit of memory for me of the holidays with my mom.
While changing out the decor, I pulled out this bowlful of little pillows. Each of them has a “Be” phrase. You can read more about them in this post.
Of course, the real question is – will Wilbur leave them alone, or will he think they are his new cat toys? I’m waiting to wake up to them scattered hither and yon throughout the house. Haha.
My daughter, Molly, is a creative soul, and that makes me smile. It’s not unusual for her to give me a handmade Christmas gift, and this year was no exception. She drew this very cool picture for me.
The background is colored pencil, the plaid is strips of fabric, the planet and the crow are block prints she made. The churn dash quilt is hand drawn and colored. It’s an 8″ x 10″ picture. I’m just delighted with it.
This cat toy has been one of the best $10 I spent. Wilbur has quite a bit of fun with it.
He runs around it, jumps over it, comes running from another room in the house and attacks it. That little feathery thing is not part of the toy; it’s another toy he has stashed in there. Best of all, at least in his opinion, is that when he’s tired, he can just lay on the floor next to it and lazily bat the balls around. Who knew he’d like it so much.
And that’s it for my I Like Thursdays #18. A little nostalgia, a little whimsey and a little fun. I hope your week has been like that too!
What have you liked this week? Tell me about it. I’d love to hear!
Don’t forget to visit LeeAnna and the others to read more fun likes for the week!

Hi Wendy! You’re surprised that your daughter has a creative soul??! The apple doesn’t fall from the tree . . . That is a really special gift and just perfect for you. I would love to watch Wilbur and that toy. I can just picture it. I hope coffee with a friend yesterday was fun. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Molly is a smart girl making her mama a handmade gift with a quilt in it! Wilbur’s toy reminds me of the stacking rings kid toys. You already know what I like about my week 😉

I tried to get Molly’s picture bigger so I could look at it properly but couldn’t. I think it is awesome too.
Just love your bowl fillers and what a sweet remembrance of your Mom and Swedish roots. Hubby has some of those too- Swedish roots I mean.

I love your St. Lucia doll – what a sweet memory of your mom! That is a neat gift from your daughter, too – of course she is creative like you are! Your Be bowl fillers are so sweet. I enjoyed going back to your post about them. Wilbur’s cat toy looks like a lot of fun – and it sounds like a lot of fun to watch him play with it, too! Happy Thursday, Wendy!

I love hearing the story of your St. Lucia doll! We watched an episode of Holiday Bake off where Paul Hollywood made St. Lucia buns and they looked fun to try. It’s pretty cool to have some pieces of heritage like that! And good luck keeping the cute pillows un-cat-toyed!

Very weak signal here, but I wanted to say how much I like your Santa Lucia doll. I’m thinking about that toy for the kitties. They had a similar one, but only a single level.

That St. Lucia doll is really beautiful. Pretty little pillows (and I’m thinking cat toys – although I love his real toy!). Molly’s picture is seriously cool.

I love that you have your Mother’s doll – such a treasure. If I was Wilbur, I would definitely grab those ‘Be’ pillows for my own! 🙂

The little doll is so sweet. Great memories. The bowl of “Be”s is awesome and it made me chuckle when you wonder if they will be scattered to the four winds.

Love the cat toy–need to get one. I “like” that it’s winter and I can hibernate in my sewing room!
