Pieceful Life

I Like Thursdays #23

It’s time for I Like Thursdays #23 – this week has flown by! I’ve spent most of it in my sewing room, thanks to a snowstorm (this past weekend), a dead car battery, and now another storm moving through. I’m sharing my likes with LeeAnna of Not Afraid of Color and the rest of my quilty friends who share their likes as well. You can find all of them on LeeAnna’s page. Here are my likes for the week:

Writing by Hand

Each morning I write in a journal by hand. I’ve forgotten how much I enjoy handwriting. I was surprised at how difficult it was at first; all my muscles had to relearn how to write that long (3 pages).

Chickens

I’ve been chatting with Helen at Word Weaver Art about chickens. She has a few beautiful ones, all named. My grandmother raised chickens, and I used to help her gather the eggs. She had chickens that were tame enough to pet, except for the rooster. He was always cranky.

I have this print, by artist and friend, Julie Caprera. It’s one of my favorite prints.

It sits in the corner of my kitchen, where I can see it when I sit in the living room.

I found this little coaster a few years ago while wandering through a shop. It makes me smile.

Pottery

I like pottery, hunting for unusual pieces with rough textures and deep earthy colors. This little cup is a favorite, made by Samantha Hostert. It’s just one of a number of pottery pieces I have in my house.

So how about a quilt-related like, since I’ve been sewing for days and days?

Alphabitties

These little plastic squares are so handy when working with quilt blocks that have numerous pieces. It makes labeling those pieces so easy, along with a Wonder clip. No pieces get lost because my sticky note fell off. (no affiliation)

Snow!

I really do like snow. I love a good snowstorm if everyone is home safe and sound. We have another one rolling in tonight, so there will be another day of nothing but sewing tomorrow!

And that’s a wrap for my I Like Thursdays #23. Thanks for hosting, LeeAnna!

What’s one thing you like this week?

I love your pottery – that is something I love to look at and occasionally purchase. I usually do not find any locally but when we travel we come upon nice places to find it in artist studios and shops that travelers like. I think hand writing is becoming a thing of the past. I find it harder to write now as my hands get stiffer but also from lack of using – we type everything now from on the phones to computer and Ipads – soon we will forget how to hold a pen!

Good Morning, Wendy! Your chicken print is pretty darn cool, as is your coaster. I’ve never been around them but Sue had to feed them on her grandpa’s farm when she was younger. She said she was afraid of them – they always pecked her. I’m guessing she didn’t feed them quickly enough. It looks like it is a great day to sew today but I’m at working, wishing I was sewing. ~smile~ Roseanne

That’s a good list, although I’ll always be a typist at heart. I can type as fast as I can think. Handwriting is a different story. I’ve always printed when I’m writing by hand. Your chickens reminded me of a sign I saw at a place we stayed in Canada. It included two chickens, and it said, “Rise and Shine, Mother Cluckers!” (Have to be careful typing that.)

I love chickens, too! I follow a channel on YouTube with a young couple who are using chickens to process compost. I love it when they show long videos just of the chickens scratching around 🙂

the rooster probably had “testosterone poisoning” I dated men who had that! lol. I love handwriting, doing it, seeing it, using my new turquoise ink fountain pen. Is it helping to quiet your spirit, like Cameron’s art pages?
Can’t say I like snow any longer, but I do like chickens.I remember visiting Plymouth Mass and seeing so many varieties of chicken in the reproduction pilgrim village.
we fell in love with a potter back in MD and bought 6 of his art mugs, with cool feet and earthy colors.

Well what do you know, my Grandma has chickens too! I like your print and your coaster. Chickens are not my thing though, I love hares, the mug I use for my coffee has a hare on, it’s my favourite.

Your chicken art is fun! Mike and I went to the county fair last summer just see the animals and the displays, and there were some amazing looking chickens. I like pottery, too, and have collected a lot over the years – that’s a great mug you have! I don’t handwrite much anymore at all, and I’m sure my handwriting is not like it used to be. How neat that you’re enjoying it again!

I like snow when I can stay home. I have some of the alphabitties. I will use them when I have one of those projects that demands organization. Cute chickens.

Writing by hand takes muscle! (when you don’t do it in a while). Love the coaster. I love hand thrown pottery (and watching it being created). Snow! Yours is pretty. We got a few inches last night – I love how the trees look.

Wonderful likes! I just indulged in my stationery fetish today so I know what you mean about writing. I decided to make an arc notebook with pages for taking notes at QuiltCon! Was thinking you were gonna get chickens there for a while. Glad you like the snow. I prefer it to ice, but prefer the kind of winter we have had so far, snow isn’t sticking around if we get it all. There is still time for a blizzard or two!

I find that if I do write -I use cursive and printing-and yes, my hand hurts from not using those muscles often. Great list of likes.

I love your whale blocks (especially the rainbow one)! And that pottery cup is beautiful. My mother is a potter, and she (and now I) love collecting pottery by other artists. The glazes and colors on your cup are really unique and lovely. Thanks for sharing it!

I really related to your post. I treasure the handwritten journals my Mom wrote in for about 10 years before my Dad died. I enjoy hand writing in garden journals but am not sure my kids will treasure my comments about gardening – hah! I had about 30 chickens when I was 10-12. They were my pets and I named every one. I saved enough in egg money to keep myself supplied in the latest Nancy Drew books – lol! To this day I love to hear chickens “singing” as they scratch and peck.

OMG! I have chicken decor in my kitchen and collect ceramics-now we can combine stash and decor and we like the same fashion on Pinterest- we are Sisters from a different Mister-PS Mom liked me better
