Pieceful Life

I Like Thursdays #24

I’ll start off I Like Thursdays #24 by first thanking LeeAnna for hosting this fun gathering each week. It reminds me to think about what I’m grateful for, and to pay attention to things I see and enjoy through the week. Please visit LeeAnna and my other ILT friends at Not Afraid of Color. I hope you encourage them a bit this week too.

It’s been a big week for one member of our family. After working for 2.5 years, yesterday she successfully defended her thesis. Our youngest, Molly, is now a Master of Science – at age 24. We’re so happy for her!

This quilt.

I Like Thursdays #24 - This scrappy cordoroy quilt was made by my mother and has been around since I was in middle school - piecefulthoughts.com

This quilt was made by my mother out of cordoroy squares of all different wales. Made from scraps of various items of clothing made by my grandmother (a seamstress) as well as some my mother. I recognize some pieces – like the black/white houndstooth. I had a jumper (dress) out of that. I’m not sure who had the animal print.

I love the backing fabric with its 70s vibe. It’s flannel, and still soft and cozy. The quilt is tied with yarn, and I’m pretty sure I helped with the tying, given the inaccuracy of some of the stitches on the back. There is no batting between the quilt top and the backing, so this would technically be called a coverlet. I have tucked in under this quilt since I was in middle school, so this quilt has worn the years very well. It makes me happy that it’s still with me.

This particular little squirrel that my daughter Molly made for me. She needle-felted this little guy freehand.

I seriously want to stick him to the top of my sewing machine, but I know there’s a particular fur-beast who wouldn’t leave him alone. So I’m still pondering a safe place for this little nugget.

Speaking of Wilbur . . .

I Like Thursdays #24 - The ongoing adventures of Wilbur the cat - piecefulthoughts.com

This cat. Seriously. One minute he’s cuddling, the next he’s off on some adventure, scaling grand heights.

You! I’m so grateful that you stop by each week, read my little chitter chatter, and encourage me along the way. Wouldn’t it be grand if we could all meet up at a quilt/art/crafting retreat? Somehow, my posts feel like a virtual retreat each day when we check in with each other and chat about quilting and life. So thank you all so much!

And that’s a wrap for my I Like Thursdays #24! Enjoy your day, my friends!

Wonderful list of likes! You’re so right about being grateful to LeeAnna for having started and continuing this for us. I can’t pick a favourite on your list of five as they’re all meaningful and amazing and exhibit love don’t they? And some hard work too I just thought of, grin!!

Your daughter is obviously talented in many ways! That’s so cool about getting her master’s degree so young and I’m in love with that needle-felted squirrel. Great pic of Wilbur, the adventurer! You have such a great style of writing that really invites your readers in. I’m so glad to be joining you now on a regular basis. Take care, Mary.

it would be so nice if all of us bloggers could meet up one day – I know it would be a fun couple of days for all. Congrats to your daughter

I made a corderoy quilt top, just found it, and it’s so soft. Now I know to use flannel and tie it… thanks for that. I like a needle felted critter, and the wool is very intriguing to Milo. Congrats to your daughter! My husband worked full time and wrote his Ph. d. thesis in engineering and we all celebrated when his defense was done! It’s a hard won degree, and your smart diligent daughter can take a breather now! What an accomplishment!
Wilbur… good gosh that explorer. where in the world is Wilbur now?

Oh that quilt, I love that it is made with corduroy squares. I think I had a jumper out of the same houndstooth. I know you are so proud of your daughter! What an adorable squirrel, and so appropriate for many of us. 😉

Go Molly!!! I bet she feels so great right about now. This challenge is complete – moving onward! The squirrel is adorable too – she has her mama’s crafty/artistic talents.

What a wonderful list, Wendy! Congrats to your daughter! The squirrell is fabulous, I love that you’re still snuggling with a quilt you’ve had since middle school, and the online quilting community is indeed something to be thankful for!
