I Like Thursdays #26
Well, hello, all! I’m finally back with my I Like Thursdays #26 post! I’m joining in with the LeeAnna and the gang over at Not Afraid of Color as we join together each week to celebrate our likes. Thanks to LeeAnna for bringing us all together each week. If you want to read the other posts, LeeAnna has the links to all of us on her site. Since we’re all tucked in at home, grab another cup of coffee or tea, and pop on over there, read the other posts, and leave some comments.
You might recall that in my last post I mentioned I’d be on the road but hoping to post. Well, the posting didn’t happen, thanks to weak Internet where we were staying. So this week, I’ll bring you I Like Thursdays #26 – Florida style, from Minnesota. Let me give you a peek at some of the fun I had while visiting our daughter.
First up, Florida sunsets never fail to impress, do they? We have some stunning sunsets in Minnesota too, but there’s just something about those ocean sunsets!
The three photos above are for LeeAnna. She asked me to have a cafe con leche (yum!), a cubano (okay, my daughter had it, but I had a bite), and to take a picture of palm trees. So there you go, LeeAnna – just for you!
I found this white ibis amusing as we munched our lunch. Actually he was quite a pest, but he loved him some french fries, and he wasn’t about to share them with the gulls!
I like the color green almost as much as I like the color orange We visited Kanapaha Botanical Gardens one afternoon, and it was glorious to stroll through all the green leafy plants, see a few of the flowers beginning to bloom, and hear the bees. It’s time for green to come to Minnesota! Another highlight of the Gardens was walking through the huge stands of bamboo!
Of course, you know I like fabric. I made my first visit to Hancock’s of Paducah on our drive to Florida. I had a little bit of fun in the Kona, Grunge and batik sections! Aren’t they pretty?
And that’s my I Like Thursdays #26 a few weeks late! I hope you enjoyed the little mini Florida tour. If we can’t actually travel and meet up, at least we can give each other some digital views, right?!
Stay safe and healthy, my friends!
Wendy

Now isn’t that a coincidence — I am thinking about making an orange and green quilt from fabrics I bought last week to tide me over 21 days of lockdown in South Africa. We must keep cheerful and busy! Love the set of fabrics you purchased and enjoyed looking at the photographs of your holiday.

I’m glad you were able to stop at Hancocks of Paducah – an amazing supply of fabric there! I haven’t been for a couple years now. There is something about Florida – I too found when we visited the magnificent sunsets and sunrises

Looks like a very fun trip.

Hi Wendy…great loves this week! I’m glad you had a great visit with your daughter and was able to enjoy the beauty of Florida! I’m definitely jealous of your trip to Hancock’s of Paducah–I get a lot of my batiks from there!

Great loves this week Wendy! I’m glad you had a great visit with your daughter and was able to experience the beauty of Florida! I’m definitely jealous of your trip to Hancock’s of Paducah — I purchase most of my batiks from them ♥♥

Glad you had a fun trip. 🙂 Lol on that ibis and YUM on the Cuban sandwich – I love them!
Was the Hancock’s store huge?

I loved all the birds in Florida, and other wildlife too. Pretty fabrics.

oh, I have a tear in my eye for the sunsets, and the palm trees. I can taste the cafe con leche from here, and always got a turkey cuban hot and pressed! Cuban bread! The ibis is adorable, overcoming it’s nerves around people to score a fry. I get it! Isn’t Hancocks an experience? Just the miles of every fabric and those back tables? awesome choices, and what restraint you showed. LeeAnna

Wonderful florida post! I wouldn’t mind a little warmth, although today seems a bit easier – sun and no wind. Is that really all you got at Hancocks?

Your trip looks like such fun and I love your new fabrics. Cubano sandwiches are a favorite of mine and the place here I used to get them closed a year or so ago so I haven’t had one in a while. That one of your daughter’s looks tasty!

Your blog is looking great, Wendy! I like the categories you set up when we first click on your link. Beautiful sights in Florida- especially lots of green. I’m ready for some green! And new fabric is always my favorite souvenir to bring home from a trip!

Hi Wendy! Oooh, I love seeing the photos from FL. The sandwich looks delicious, and that ibis looks quite brave. Whatcha doing to do with the new fabrics?!! I’ve never been to Paducah – were there lots of temptations that you left behind. ~smile~ Roseanne

So good that you got your trip in before the world began shutting down. But even with the crisis… spring will come. 🙂

Thanks for your photos! It looks like it was a lovely trip!
Enjoy your quilting! 🙂

Beautiful sunset. Cuban sandwiches are awesome! Love the Ibis. Lovely fabrics, and glad you had a get away before all the craziness.

I would love to have a little cottage on a quiet beach somewhere, just to watch the sunrise and sunsets. Sounds like you had a good time – I’m glad you got to see your daughter before all this craziness started.

Sandwich looks yummy. The green plants are terrific. Oh, lovely fabric!

We visited the Marie Selby Botanical Garden in Sarasota in early March and thoroughly enjoyed the flowers and plants. They had a special Salvadore Dali exhibit and had all kinds of whimsical Dali themes spread throughout the gardens. We made it home to NY 3 days before the state-wide lock down, No it’s just a waiting game, but spring is in the air and my daffodils have started blooming.
