Pieceful Life

I Like Thursdays #30

Well, hello! Wilbur says it’s time for I Like Thursdays #30. We’re joining up today with LeeAnna from Not Afraid of Color and the rest of the gang who share our likes or things we’re grateful for each week. Wilbur is grateful for this lovely view from our kitchen window. Little does he realize how spoiled he is.

I like washing dishes. While I love my dishwasher, there is just something about sudsy water and dishes to wash. When I was little, my mom used to put me by the sink, fill it up with sudsy water and let me play while she was baking. She would just drop things in the water and I’d wash them, all the while thinking I was just playing in the water. Pretty sure I caught on at some point . . .

I like sunshine! We finally had a warm and sunny day yesterday, so I enjoyed lunch on our deck. Normally I would be barefoot, but I decided to spare you the sight of my homely feet. I almost gave in and spent the afternoon in that chair, but I am saving that for another day. I have three books coming, so I have a date planned for an afternoon of sunny reading!

I like Les Misérables 25th Anniversary with Alfie Boe. This is my favorite musical version of Les Mis, because I’m a huge fan of Alfie Boe. If you’re looking for something to watch, this is available to rent on Amazon Prime for $3.99. (no affiliate)

I like notecards. I found this box at World Market awhile ago. Actually, I have two boxes because I like them so much. There are four different McCalls pattern cards in this box, all vintage styles now, but they were a hot item when I was in school. Pretty sure I had a dress close to the one on the left, with the belt. Never did nail the hat, though! Darn.

I like these tissue boxes. You know why? When they are empty, they make the best thread catcher right next to my chair. They also can be a fun toy for Wilbur. I drop noisy little items inside, and he’s fascinated with trying to get them out (thread removed, of course!).

Two things I’m missing while we are sheltering is ice cream and french fries. I should have snagged some ice cream while I was at the store the last time. As to the fries, I suppose I could make my own, but pretty sure it just wouldn’t be the same!

And that’s a wrap for my I Like Thursdays #30. Not much for this week; maybe I’ll have more to write about next week. What about you – what are you missing while sheltering?

Hahaha! I have been craving French fries as well! Potato chips just don’t do it for me. I don’t even often eat French fries! But they are a thing I am craving these days. Love tissue boxes for the same reason! I remember that McCall’s pattern too! I was never much of a garment sewer but my Mom made a lot of my clothes! Have a great day Wendy!

I was thinking I might need to grab a bag of french fries next time at the grocery and bake them until they are nice and crisp how I like them, – I got ice cream awhile back and just made chocolate chip cookies so I think I need to pass on the ice cream – I’m not getting enough exercise as it is — glad you had sun and not more snow

I love your note cards! So fun! I actually look for special note cards too! This reminds me I should send some notes while on SIP. It’s always fun to get a handwritten note!
We had a bit of sun yesterday as well! Can’t wait to sit and soak it in….
I miss fast food in general! Did just go to Culvers drive through for that very reason! Also missing people very much!

I’ve had those note cards too! I love them! I had fries a few weeks ago drive thru mcdonalds on the way home from a doctor appointment.

I’m missing a Culver’s hamburger, lol! I just can’t make them the same at home… I love sitting out on our deck with my feet up, just like you showed – and with a book in your hands there’s nothing better! Isn’t it nice to get some warm weather?! Those notecards are fun! Have a great day, Wendy!

omg just yesterday I said to dh we need fries!!! I’m not making them but I miss ’em. Ah, sun and bare feet with new books. I am pretty sure I made all three outfits too. I made about all my clothes in high school. We looked good too, right? Plaid pants, low slung belts, short skirts

Love your post Wendy. We do make oven fries and no, they are not the same – but they are filling a need all the same!! I have those notecards too. LOVE THEM! Enjoy the sunshine and I am curious which books you are going to read?

I am with you on the French fries! I had a burger (homemade) two nights ago and I was SO close to saying, let’s just order a takeout…but then I just couldn’t, too worrying. We have made our own, and MacGyver is pretty good at it, soak in ice cube filled water, boil a bit, spread on a pizza pan, season and pop in the oven to roast. Close to the real McCoy. Love the shot of Wilbs looking out. 🙂 I need SUN and warmth here but we keep getting stuff coming from below us and so we are 10 Celsius degrees below seasonal brrr.

I hear you with the fries…oven roasted fries are good but not the same at all really and a good hamburger. Anyway, how nice to sit in the sun. I worked in the sun this morning which was nice but too chilly on our veranda for sitting out but soon..Love that Wilbur.

Hi Wendy! I love seeing Wilbur jus chillin’ like a villain. I wonder what he’s thinking about. I love note cards, too. That is a cool one with the McCall’s pattern on it. Those outfits look like something Twiggy would wear – remember her? She was SO skinny. I remember seeing her on TV when I was in first grade or so. Sunshine and a good book – is there anything better??!! Add in the birdie sounds in the background and maybe a distant lawnmower and it sounds like nirvana to me. {{Hugs}} I miss getting a pedicure and a haircut. I suspect my hair will be totally grown out when I can get in and then I may as well skip coloring it! Take care, my friend. ~smile~ Roseanne

  • Quilting is in my Blood

I like all the modern patterned tissue boxes too. Some of them are great inspiration for quilts. I never thought of using one as a thread catcher or a cat toy! I’m also a fan of notecards. Those McCalls pattern cards are wonderful!

  • My Sewful Retirement

Great picture of Wilbur! Glad you had a sunny day.. I’m sure I made that same dress also. I’m the hat lady in my family..I always had hat and shoes to match for church on Sunday…it was a sad sad day when I donated them before retiring. I’m in desperate need of a salon visit…manicure and pedicure–after reading your post I realized I’ve worn socks more the past few days than normal…hmmm?

  • Sally

Oh, I like sunshine too! We need some more of it around here. 🙂 What fun notecards. Interesting reuse of tissue boxes – never thought of doing that!

  • Helen

I love washing dishes by hand too. (I doubt there are many of us who can say that.) As far as what I’m missing… hands down… getting to travel to see my little granddaughter.

  • Louise Hornor

I miss ice cream, too! Our freezer is packed with meat, so no room for a treat. We’ve been making do with sugar free jello. How’s that for spartan?? I dig those plaid pants in the pattern 🙂

  • Su-sieee! Mac

We did our grocery run today so now our house has ice cream and potato chips that we missed.
Way back then, I thought McCall patterns were cute but hard for me to follow.

  • Carol Andrews

I never thought of using the tissue box for a thread catcher. What a great idea. Glad you have some sunshine to enjoy. It frosted here again last night and has been raining for a couple of days. Might help with the wildfires that have started up again already here in British Columbia.

Your I like post made me giggle. Ugly feets….I can so relate. Wilbur looks like he wants to go outside and play. Sorry you are missing ice cream and french fries.

  • Maureen

My mom was an expert seamstress and had a zillion patterns. As a child I would sit by the hour and carefully examine each one, noting the size and suggested fabrics. I’d dream about what the frock would look like on me and what I would do while wearing it. Sadly, I did not inherit her love of clothes sewing. Too fiddly. But quilting is a different matter!
