I Like Thursdays #32
One of the reasons I enjoy writing posts like today’s I Like Thursdays #32 is to let you know a little bit more about me each week as I share things that I enjoy, or things I am grateful for. I join together with LeeAnna from Not Afraid of Color and some other quilting friends each week to share our likes together. You can find the full list on LeeAnna’s site. Feel free to join us!
One of the things I like, and I miss right now, is a road trip. This picture (above) is from a road trip we took a few years ago. Our family likes to listen to Holly Arrowsmith, an indie folk musician from New Zealand. When we found out she was going to be giving a house concert in Wyoming, we took a weekend road trip and drove all the way there to see her. We were able to chat with her a bit after the concert, and she asked where we were from. She was a bit surprised that we would drive almost 1000 miles one way to hear her sing.
I like this community of quilters that I’ve found through my blog. Although I’ve not met many of you face-to-face, I feel like I know you, and someday I hope we meet. I find so much joy and inspiration from you.
One of the quilters who inspired me passed away recently, and this week two fellow quilt bloggers have organized a blog hop in her honor. It’s called the Creating a Quilted Legacy Blog Hop, and it runs from May 6 though May 8. Each of us participating made a quilt for a specific charity in honor of Paula. You can read my post here.
I’ve been looking for some lighthearted reading lately, and this book fit the bill. It is a delightful and quick read about a guy who has the perfect plan to find the perfect mate. This is a good book for a day when you want to curl up and read the day away.
I like my thread shed. My daughter gave me this little wooden house/shed awhile ago, thinking I would paint and decorate it. I haven’t gotten around to that, as you can see, but it’s the perfect holding place for my threads while they wait to be put back on my thread rack. It looks like I need to do some thread clean up, doesn’t it? I’m running out of room!
As I was out in our yard, I came across this feather. My biologist daughter thinks it may be a hawk or an owl. I just know I like the fluffy white feathers. Wilbur thinks it is quite tasty. Silly cat.
Speaking of Wilbur, here he is, keeping a close eye on that cheeky chipmunk. I like how I managed to color coordinate my cat with just about every floor in my house. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said “Where’s Wilbur?” only to realize he’s laying on the floor right in front of us. When not keeping an eye on that chipmunk, Wilbur likes to fish empty spools and other noisy things out of that kleenex box. I like that because it keeps him from trying to help me organize my thread shed!
So there you have it, my I Like Thursdays #32 of random thoughts and things that have amused me this week.
What about you? What’s one fun thing that you’ve enjoyed this week?
Tomorrow I’m going to tell you about the challenge quilt, so I hope you stop back!

Great likes! I love your thread shed! What a great use for that! Wilbur is watching “cat tv” isn’t he? What a beautiful looking boy! Have a great week!

I love that photo of Wilbur! What a cool cat on a cool quilt. I hope you have a great day.

Great idea of putting things in the kleenex box for Wilbur! I saw my first Grossbeak of the season yesterday:)

I remember when we had cats years ago they would always be at the window sunny themselves and then go crazy when they would see something in the yard. I like the thread house – you don’t need to paint it – the thread adds the color!

I feel the same way, Wendy – I really enjoy our community of quilters and would love to meet you in real life! I have an owl feather from our yard, too – I keep it in a wine glass that sits on my counter. Every once in awhile when I’m cleaning that space, I think it’s dust…until I pull it out and realize what it is again! Your little thread shed is cute, as is Wilbur! I’ve been meaning to read that book – good to know you’re enjoying it.

Nice post. I’ve met some wonderful people in the blogging community as well. And, yes, oh yes, how I miss the road trip. We’d pack up and go somewhere, except that all the parks are closed. Actually, we wouldn’t go just now, but we want to in the not-too-distant future I like your little thread shed.

I need a thread shed! Is that photo at the top your terrain nearby? Interesting and couldn’t be more different from the fir tree forest I live in. Littler grandson and I have collected quite a few feathers for a display. Yours definitely looks like a down feather from a larger bird.
Though a country away, I too enjoy our community of stitchers very much.

Nice list this week Wendy – The thread shed is so cute! Also, love the mat that Wilbur is lying on – next to the tissue box. Did you make that? Did you back it with something heavier to make it more durable? It is so pretty!

So great to read your blog posts and the little things that bring pleasure to the day. I love the feather and watch for things like that on my walk in the early mornings. Lately it’s been rock art that someone is putting out on the walking path. Makes it so interesting.

it’s only self defense to choose a pet based on your carpet and sofa colors… lol. I know that’s not why you chose wilbur. You chose him to keep you in line and snoopervise your quilt making.

I like your likes! I could sure use a road trip up north to the cool pines. I like your thread house just the way it is! Wilbur looks ready to go out.

I like your attitude in your blogs. I really like my new Magic Pins. If you haven’t tried them yet, I highly recommend them. The are very sharp and easy to pull out.

Hi Wendy! The Rosie Project?! That sounds exactly like something I should read – STAT. My brother calls me Rosie. I just love seeing pictures of Wilbur. He’s such a pretty cat, and I can just imagine him playing with that Kleenix box, fishing for empty spools. Your thread shed looks quite roomy and you have definitely maximized its space by stacking things just so. I am certain we will be able to meet someday sooner than later. {{Hugs}} Take care. ~smile~ Roseanne

“Thread shed” made me smile! And goodness knows I could use a few more smile this week. Give Wilbur a big cuddle session. He’s such a handsome fellow 🙂
Quilting is in my Blood
I’ll have to check out Holly Arrowsmith. I like indie folk music too. One of my favorite groups is Birds of Chicago. Your thread shed is great and I could see it being a temptation to Wilbur. And that pic of him watching the chipmunk is priceless. Rusty likes to get on the roof during the summer and watch the hummingbirds. Fortunately they’re faster than he is! I enjoy reading these posts. You have an inviting writing style. Take care, Mary.

Great list this week! I also deeply appreciate the online community of quilters. I feel so connected with so many, and right now, especially, that’s so important. I read a review of that book recently and thought it sounded good! I will write it down so I can remember when my public library opens up for holds pick-up. Have a great week, Wendy!

Pretty, fluffy feather. And shiny thread – someone else had that on their likes, too! That is a brave little chipmunk (it’s a great photo). You’re the second person I know that really likes The Rosie Project – I may have to check it out.

I have enjoyed this peak into your life. I really like your thread shed

Road trips–yes! Rosie books–I’ve laughed through all 3 books in the series! Thread shed–very useful! Wilbur, the camo cat–haha! Thanks for sharing, Wendy!
Maureen
I adored The Rosie Project! Make sure you read the sequel. Equally good.

Love the thread shed and the picture of Wilber. Paula sounds like a lady worth remembering.

That cheeky chipmunk loves torturing Wilbur!!! Great Thursday piece, and yes, it is a great way to get to know more about people.
