I Like Thursdays #39
I Like Thursdays #39, a day when I post about things I’ve noticed this past week, things that make me smile, helpful things, and sometimes quilty things. LeeAnna hosts this fun day, and she lists the others who participate on her blog at Not Afraid of Color. Feel free to stop by the others who post; I’m sure they’d appreciate it!
I Like Sunsets
Don’t we all? I particularly enjoy sunset drives. The photo (above) was delightful – okay, true confession – it might have been the DQ vanilla cone that put this view over the top – haha.
I Like Going for a Drive
When we have been in the house too long, we like to take drives around the countryside. On our last drive, we happened upon this pretty little church and cemetery that we didn’t even know existed. The grounds were so pretty and well taken care of. It was a fun discovery.
I Like My Purple Iris
Last year, I bought some Japanese Iris (Iris ensata) Crystal Halo at our garden store. I was surprised and happy to look out of my quilt room and see them in bloom.
I Like Nifty Gadgets
Especially nifty gadgets in the kitchen. I came across these bag holders recently.
I’m not quite sure where these have been all my life, but I’m so glad I found them. We will use them when we bag blueberries and cherries for freezing later this summer. I gave it a trial run while prepping my chicken for dinner. I found them on Amazon, of course. They are adjustable to the size of the bag, and they have a gripper base, so they don’t topple over. When not in use, they fold flat.
Weekly Wilbur Photo
My brother made me this corner cupboard years ago. It’s a favorite piece of mine. You’d think I’d have something on the shelves. Wilbur decided to help with that. He fills that top shelf quite well, don’t you think?! Getting off the shelf was more of a puzzle than getting on, however. Ah, Wilbur – gotta love ya!
And that’s a wrap for my I Like Thursdays #39 post. I hope you’ve enjoyed my musings and photos. Thanks for reading!
Wendy

I always enjoy reading your list of likes and seeing what Wilbur is up to. I too have a purple iris blooming in my garden. It is confused because it is blooming out of season, but I am very pleased to see its cheerful face

Beautiful flowers but Wilbur takes the prize!

How fun to have to have almost 40 posts where you have taken the time to consider the blessings and favorite things! Love the sunset and that is a gorgeous iris! I have let my irises go and it’s time to thin them all out!
Great gadget! I am drawn to gadgets- will have to check this out!
Wilbur is a clever cat and sure footed to have gotten in that space!
Blessings!!

do the bag openers have a name and do you know where you got them? I need them!! I love irises but they have not been open here in quite a few months now – I think early May? Love that cat!

I just now did a search and found the bags and ordered! thanks for showing the photo and mentioning them

The irises are beautiful! I need one of those bag holders.
Quilting is in my Blood
It’s so fun to read your Thursday Likes. That photo of Wilbur in the corner cupboard is priceless, your purple iris is glorious, but I am most excited about the kitchen gadget. I frequently make batches of chili to freeze, and your gadget should make spooning the chili into the freezer bags much easier! Have a great day, Mary.

LOL Wilbur! I am enjoying your photos of him! This is my favorite photo so far! Your irises are lovely! Driving in the country is a wonderful thing, love the church and the grounds! Have a wonderful week!

Wilbur the Cuckoo Cat, you’re right, ya gotta love him! If it weren’t for his tail, you would think he was a painting.

Those bag holders are perfect! Long rides to nowhere can be fun. My mother used to do that alot. I think I will start instituting some of that with hubby, it seems a nice thing to do.

And I forgot to say how much I love the purple irises. I have a few in Maine, but not the big gorgeous ones. I will have to add them to my list. And the cemetery is such a lovely find.

Nice eye candy in this post. I think you’ve shared about those bag holders before. Interesting. I’ve always used my four-cup glass measuring cup and sort of folded them over the top, but of course, it only works for the larger bags. I might have to look those up. They’d be great in the RV too.

Hi Wendy! Wilbur ALWAYS brings a smile to my face. I love the weekly antics update. A bag holder?!!! Where oh where has that been all my life?!! What a fabulously simple and clever idea. Sweet. Thanks for sharing – I’m heading over to good ‘ole Amazon for a bit of shopping! HAHA! ~smile~ Roseanne

Every drive is made better by DQ ice cream! Lovely sunset. Do the Japanese irises bloom later than regular iris. It looks more delicate than the hard ones in my bed that bloomed in April. And Wilbur is a crackup. My grandmother had a corner shelf that she kept decorative ceramic figures on. No Wilbur to perhaps knock them over. He does fit perfectly in that top opening! I’ll have to get the bag holder. The words I say when it doesn’t stay open are not nice! Have a great day.

I think you have an automatic duster there with Wilbur!! He just fits perfectly in that arch! I gotta go look up those bag holders. So glad you are letting us enjoy your Iris also! Did you get rain this morning? We had it coming down like cats and dogs;)

A sunset drive and an ice cream cone sound perfect! I love that church you found, too – so pretty and “pieceful!” 🙂 Purple irises are my favorite. The photo of Wilbur is a hoot – amazing how he fits right in that spot. Hope you’re having a great Thursday, Wendy!

Wilbur! He’s great. Those bag holders look cool. The irises are beautiful. Good stuff. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your likes! Wilbur made me laugh!

you always make me laugh Wilbur! Wendy did you see Shannon’s ancestor was a Wilbur too! I want to visit the church, and love to look at graves. One of my fave cemeteries was in Stockbridge MA… gorgeous headstones with sayings on them.

My sis gave me that bag holding gadget several years ago and I love it. I only wish my mom could’ve had one as much home-grown veggies as she “put up” in the freezer….but then again, we would’ve missed out on all that time holding bags open for Mom. :o)

I’m in love with that church! Reminds me of the one our family attended when I was really young. Wilbur is adorable.

Oh what you said there about getting an ice cream cone while having a drive reminded me of Sunday summer drives as a kid and stopping always for an ice cream cone. Happy memories.
I never knew there was such a gadget but I’m noting it for my daughter who is always packaging food for later.
I just love to see that Wilbur. Hope your weekend is not as hot as mine, Wendy. We are topping almost 94 in your degrees today.

Wilbur is so adorable in that shelf! He fits perfectly! And those bag holders look fantastic. I’ve seen them before but never knew anyone who had them. Your endorsement makes me think maybe I should get some, we freeze tons of zucchini, pumpkin, and apples every year and it’s always a mess getting it separated out!
Mary
I find the best things on these blogs and the bag holders are the newest for me. Yay for DQ! That landscape is stunning around the church. Someone enjoys their job there.

Those bag holders look handy dandy. I will be ordering soon. Do you grow cherries and blueberries?
Emily Leachman
Those bag holders look super handy! We make broth every time we cook something large (turkey, ham) and bag the broth in 4-cup portions to freeze and use later. This would make the process much easier, it looks like!
