I Love a Parade!

I love a parade – of quilts, that is! And today is the day those of us who participated in the Stay at Home Round Robin get to show off our pretties for everyone to see! So as long as you are here, I’ll show mine off a bit, then at the end of this post, I’ll give you the links to my co-hosts and their quilts, along with the linky party you can find at Quilting Gail.

This was the first Round Robin quilt I’ve ever made, and I enjoyed the process so much more than I anticipated. I started with this flag block. My whole reason for choosing that block? If I completely messed up the quilt, it would be no big deal – I wasn’t all that attached to the block. Funny thing – now that the quilt is done, I’m seriously liking this quilt!

I have to say, Connie did an amazing job of quilting my quilt! Look at all that yummy texture!

I love the quilting design around the wonky stars.

She carried the star theme over to those neutral borders – isn’t it fun?!

Cute little orange peels in the plus blocks, and fun little loop-de-loo’s in the piano keys.

Here’s a peek at the pretty texture and design on the back of the quilt.

My finished quilt measures 47″ by 50″ after quilting. All of the fabric used for the top, backing and binding are from my stash.

I want to thank Quilting Gail for coming up with this fun sew along – and for hosting the linky party today. If you joined in with us, be sure you pop over and get your quilt in the parade!

Be sure to pop over to the other co-hosts and see their finishes.

I love a parade – and this is going to be an amazing parade of quilts! I’m grabbing another cup of coffee and heading over to take a look. Join me??

Boy that turned out great! I love all your additions, and the focus block stayed in focus. The quilting just takes it over the top. Will it go on the wall or remain accessible to Wilbur?
I really enjoyed the RR too, although I piddled out. Mine is still waiting to get finished sometime this year!

love all the texture and the quilt turned out so well. I love the stars on the border and the few pinwheels on the top and bottom, I have not participated in a RR

Ohhh, that quilting makes it even better, Wendy!!! Ties it all up! Looks great, Wendy! You’re ready for flag day and the 4th, both!

  • Helen

I’m always amazed at the difference that the quilting makes. I never expect it to have the overall effect that it does. This one is a “wow” now.

That turned out so great, Wendy! You took a more “old-fashioned” looking kind of block and made it very modern looking with the way you did each of the borders. Your quilter added a lot of neat texture and detail, too. I love it!

Oo, lots of fun quilting motifs to study and try out! Connie did a great job on your lovely Americana Round Robin. Congrats on a lovely finish!

Good morning, Wendy! What a great finish. I not only love the wonky star border (and making them), but that quilting around them is just SO fun and fabulous. This turned out so nicely. ~smile~ Roseanne

I looked at all the quilts and each one is fabulous. It is amazing how one started block could go in so many creative directions. I do like how the long armed quilted yours. I bet we see it on holidays hanging in your home. Happy start to you week.

It did turn out just great and so fun to look at the details of each section, both quilting and patchwork. (I have *got* to learn to be that creative in my quilting…and yet, I always feel like my creativity is “spent” by that point!). Such a beauty! How nice it will be having it up for all to see–esp you!

This is fantastic! You may have inspired me to try an “At Home Round Robin” project – something I’ve never attempted. Just beautiful & the quilting is fabulous.

  • quiltinggail

Your finished quilt is fabulous!!!! And yes, Connie did a fantastic quilting job!!! It’s lovely!
I’m so glad that you joined in on this journey!!! It was fun! 🙂

  • The Joyful Quilter

Spectacular custom quilting on your SAHRR, Wendy!! I particularly like the design Connie used in your own Wonky Star round. Thank you for being a part of this fun project! It was SEW enJOYable. :o))

  • Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl

I can understand your thinking behind starting with the flag block, but I’m glad you really like how it came together. 🙂 I appreciate all the attention to detail that Connie gave each individual border in her quilting. Congratulations on the finish!

Wendy, I love this quilt! Is your quilter a local person? I have never had a quilt quilted for me so I inquire in ignorance. I am curious as to how you get this done.

  • Kathleen McCormick

Just perfect…a parade and a quilt that is perfect for the parade. Your quilter did a fabulous job, but first, you did a fabulous job selecting and making all the fabulous blocks! Congratulations!

  • Sandra Walker

Wow, did Connie ever do a fabulous job! I love the orange peels in the 4-patches (must remember that) and that star design is awesome. It’s a lot bigger quilt than I realized as you were making it!

  • Judy B

You have(had?)some seriously fabulous stash! What a wonderful finish. It will make a great addition to your patriotic decorations. I always think they can stay up all summer!

  • anudge

What a wonderful quilt parade. This is as good as going to a quilt show – actually better because I don’t have to travel to get there. Love the patriotic theme of yours.

  • thedarlingdogwood

Love, love, LOVE this! So many things I love in this! The quilting in the star part caught my eye right away, and I like that the stars are carried over to another section. Piecing wise, it really looks cohesive. I think my favorite piecing element is the way you did the log cabins. Great finish!

Thank you, Carol. I sure had fun with it. I thought it would use up all my Kim Diehl and Jo Morton scraps, but nope. Guess I’ll have to make more quilts!
