January Challenge Block

I’m posting my January Challenge block for the 2020 Monthly Color Challenge with Patterns by Jen. There’s still time to join in this block of the month. Jen releases the blocks on the first of the month, so you still have time. You can find more information over on her blog.

The January challenge block color is yellow, for the goldfinch. The goldfinch is one of my favorite birds; I watch for its arrival in the spring, waiting for that burst of yellow color at my feeder.

Here’s a fun little fact about the American goldfinch – did you know that they weave a nest out of plant materials so tightly that it can hold water? Amazing, huh?

You may notice that the fabrics I chose for this January challenge block are very similar to my 2019 block. I just had to weave that polka dot fabric in there because I like it so much. Alas, I’m almost out of that fabric – sigh. I might have to go fabric shopping soon – haha!

My 2019 Monthly Color Challenge blocks are still waiting patiently to be sewn into a quilt top. I’ve had some deadline sewing that has taken priority, so I hope to get to it soon. In the meantime, I’m getting ready for the release of the February block at the end of this week.

I hope you visit Patterns by Jen here to see all the different blocks from those who linked up to her post. It’s really fun to see the creativity and the variety of yellow fabrics used. Then sign up and join in — the blocks are easy to make, you have the entire month to get it done, and it’s a fun way to use up some of those fun fabrics in your stash!

Happy Monday, everyone!

Wendy
