Jolly Bar Meringue Quilt
Today I want to show you my Jolly Bar Meringue Quilt. The Fat Quarter Shop has designed this short cut quilt to use their Jolly Bars, a precut that is 5″ x 10″. This quilt goes together quickly and easily, so it’s perfect for those last minute projects.
The quilt requires two Jolly Bar precuts, one print, one solid. For my print, I chose Harmony by Sweetwater, and combined it with a white Bella Solid.
The Creative Grids 9-1/2″ Perfect Rectangle Ruler works perfectly for cutting the pieces for the quilt. I found using a piece of washi tape to mark the line on the ruler helpful.
Once the cutting was done, all that was left was to sew the units into blocks, and then the blocks into the quilt top.
Once the top was together, I quilted it using yellow Aurifil thread (#2135), stitching straight lines horizontally across the quilt.
The quilt measures 49-1/2″ x 49-1/2″. For batting I used Quilter’s Dream Select. I used the Harmony fabrics for the backing and binding.
I love the look of the quilt rolled up!
We even had time to take the quilt with us on a road trip to Duluth. This photo, my favorite, was taken at Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory in Duluth.
I hope you give the Jolly Bar Meringue Quilt a try. It’s fun, easy and fast!

I’ve never heard of the Jolly Bars, but I rarely use precuts. I love the quilt. Using yellow thread for the binding was a very nice touch, and I love that fun binding.

I love this quilt, Wendy! Your binding and backing finish it off so well. And the photo in Duluth is so beautiful: all the heart eyes for that shot 😍 I think of blue and yellow as Swedish colors — appropriate for you. I also think of sunshine and blue sky, which is probably why I love your quilt so much.

Thanks for the tip about the washi tape on the rulers, it is now in my “tips for easy cutting” file. Love your fabric/color choices and that fabric with the words is just so sweet. Lovely quilt, it’s one that just makes me smile!

Good Morning Wendy! What a beauty this quilt is. I have been wanting to make a rectangle quilt myself. I love the fabrics you chose, and especially the layout to highlight them. It looks so pretty on the bed, and I love that yellow thread too for quilting. Fabulous finish! Happy Monday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

Oh, that turned out so nice, Wendy! I love those soft, pretty fabrics. And HRTs are such a great variation on regular triangles. Are Jolly Bars about 40 pieces? So a layer cake would be like two Jolly Bar packs?
piecefulwendy
Yes, I think that would be correct, Louise. 😊

It’s a beautiful quilt Wendy. I love the greys in the pack you used.
