Little Boy Blue

Little Boy Blue,

come blow your horn,

the sheep’s in the meadow,

the cow’s in the corn.

That little nursery rhyme kept going through my head as I worked on my Little Boy Blue mini.

In my last post, I gave a little peek at some fabric scraps I picked up recently at Margo’s shop, Reproduction Fabrics.

The mixture of the olive brown, blues, gray and yellow just drew me in. With a limited amount of fabric, I could only cut 4″ squares of each fabric. I made half square triangles, then quarter square triangles and stitched them together.

The finished mini measures 13″ x 16″, perfect for a little table mat for my counter. The gray scrap is a peppered cotton, which added a nice soft texture.

I purposely made imperfections to give a little twist of “make do”. I did my usual straight line quilting using Aurifil 40 wt thread in Grey Smoke (#5004).

The backing and backing are both pieces from my stash. The striped binding fabric is not a reproduction fabric; it is a Quilt Wisconsin fabric from a year or two ago.
