Little House Panel

My little house panel was the main thing I had on my to do list for last week, and I managed to finish it. I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out.

You might recall that the panel originally looked like this.

It was long and narrow, so I removed the bottom border and cut off the bottom two houses. I replaced the bottom border and then it looked like this.

Thanks to the wise advice from my quilting buddy, Vicki (Vicki’s Crafts and Quilting), I chose to crosshatch in the little house “windows”. The two inner borders were simple straight lines along the edges of each border. Here’s the finished quilt.

Did you notice that I resized the outer border? It was a bit too wide for my liking (yes, I know I put it on there in the first place, but that was ages ago!). I added diamond quilting in the outer border.

All of the fabrics are from my stash. I’m not crazy about that binding, it’s a bit distracting, but it was all I had in my stash that worked. Maybe I’ll warm up to it in time. I completely forgot to take a photo of the back, but it’s just a neutral tan from my stash. The finished quilt measures 28″ x 35″.

My Little House Panel completes the Panel Challenge hosted by Shelly of Prairie Moon Quilts. I’m so glad I joined in the challenge and notched another UFO off my list!

I like the binding! It was the first thing I noticed, I thought it made the whole thing “pop”. And I like the panel, too, even if it is older. It’s proof that you can dig out those UFO’s from the past and still make them pretty!

Great idea doing crosshatching in the windows, especially the diamond shape!!! And I REALLY like the binding!!! It adds pizazz!

Oh that turned out so good!!! And your outer border compliments the diamond cross hatching, good work:) I don’t mind the binding at all.

when I read the part where you say you didn’t care for the binding I had to go back and look – I think it looks just fie -the binding added sparkle – I think the quilting looks great on it.

Your panel looks great, Wendy!! I love the diagonal quilting as well as the diamonds in the border, and I REALLY love the striped binding!! Mine is ready except for the binding, which should be here tomorrow! I hopefully will be able to get it completed by Saturday, the 30th and post about it then!!

I was thinking how much I liked the binding before I read that you didn’t like it! I think it’s a fun touch. Love the diamond quilting int he outer border!

That is so cute!! The cross hatching is perfect for the houses. Did you mark the diamonds for the borders by drawing lines, or just the endpoints?

I’m always amazed at the change from the flimsy to the quilted final product. It goes from scraps of cloth sewn together to a work of art.

Hi Wendy! Yippee skippy! I love how your panel turned out. The crosshatch in each house square was a brilliant choice – good suggestion, Vicki! And kudos to you for listening. I also think shortening the panel was a great choice. The binding is fun and not too flashy at all, in my book. I saw hang it someplace you can enjoy it and relish the fact that it’s finished. Woohoo! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

The quilting looks great–perfect for a window!–and man, I always love a striped binding! I try to keep my eyes out for stripes on the clearance rack just for that!

Lovely – it was a cute panel to begin with but I much prefer the size of it now. It seems more useful? Also love the quilting you chose to do. Very sweet finish Wendy. I am working on mine now – hope to get the top (at least) finished before end of month!

Such nice work on re-sizing and quilting this panel. I have a National Parks panel to make for my son and DIL to commemorate their hiking trips [before les enfants ;))) ] and am trying to think how I want to do it…

I have a national parks panel to work with as well and still pondering what I will do with it. Would love to see how yours turns out…..

Nicely finished, Wendy. Yes, looking at it for awhile may make you feel differently about it. I like the quilting which looks so even. The diamonds in the border are gentle and it keeps the eye on the houses.

Wendy this is one sweet finish! Changing your mind is part of the design process, Right? I love your binding fabric and don’t find it distracting at all. Great quilting, too
